Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is a 420-bed facility that is Magnet designated and serves as a Level II Trauma Center. It offers a broad range of specialty services including cardiac surgery, minimally invasive structural heart procedures, neurosurgery, advanced cancer care, and comprehensive home health and hospice services, including the only hospice residence in Jackson County.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during general to moderately complex surgical procedures. The role includes understanding the specific surgical procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon and team, and providing support related to patient preparation, transport, and assisting with patient care to ensure safety and comfort. The technologist responds to emergent situations following established protocols.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Graduation from a Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience supporting complex high-acuity surgical procedures (3-5 years), with knowledge of surgical practices and techniques in the operating room.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Current BLS certification or certification within one month of employment.
  • Surgical Technologist certification required, or 3-5 years of experience supporting high-acuity surgeries in lieu of certification.
