Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the Senior Surgical Technician in the OR at UC San Diego Medical Center. You will verify equipment, coordinate with surgeons, and liaise with buyers and vendors to ensure availability for complex cases.

Required are completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program and certification (BART/BLS) with plans to obtain BART, plus at least one year of experience in a surgical setting. Ophthalmologic procedure exposure is a plus.

In combination with a surgical nurse, the Surgical Technician performs a wide range of duties utilizing specialized knowledge acquired through formal training. The Senior Surgical Technician supports surgical areas within UC San Diego Health. Duties also include verification of specialty equipment and inventory, contacting surgeons concerning equipment and supply needs for complex cases, communicating with related buyers and vendors and other staff concerning their service, contacting surgical supply companies and their vendors about malfunctioning or broken equipment, and providing education/training to new staff. Performs other related tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Completion of Accredited Surgical Technologist institution or specialized program.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• A minimum of one (1) year of Surgical Technician experience.
• Proven knowledge of maintaining a therapeutic environment for patients undergoing surgical procedures. Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various surgical procedures.
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Two (2) years of Surgical Technician scrub experience including Robot, Sports Med, Urology, Total Joints, and Complex GYN.
• Outpatient experience.
• Experience in Ophthalmologic procedures.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
• Must float to Main OR and take call as needed.
• Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $84,835 - $111,917 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.63 - $53.60

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
