The Senior Field Service Technician ensures exceptional service by diagnosing, installing, repairing, and maintaining utility meter systems in multi-family apartment complexes and other real estate sites. This position will travel extensively throughout the Charlotte, NC and out of state.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Train newly hired field service technicians.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and fulfill work orders with minimal supervision, utilizing both computer and manual methods.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of IT networking, electrical/electronic skills, and Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) systems for water, gas, and electric utilities.
  • Build and upgrade mechanical submetering systems in residential and commercial settings.
  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair AMR equipment (Tehama, Inovonics, Next Century, Aclara, Cerenti) and address network-related issues.
  • Ensure accuracy when entering meter data into project management software [MOSS].
  • Assess plumbing, electrical, and gas requirements for equipment installation.
  • Perform daily testing and inspection of tools and equipment, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Evaluate construction sites and retrofit properties to support automated metering systems, IoT devices, and access control systems.
  • Provide technical product support and organize data into report formats for clients.
  • Establish positive customer relationships and ensure satisfaction through prompt arrival, technical expertise, and professionalism.
  • Coordinate site visits with project managers and property managers, prepare expense reports and site visit recaps, and participate in team meetings.
  • Collect necessary due diligence from clients, including prior biller and submeter information for retrofit projects.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Customer Interaction: Experienced in roles involving customer interaction, highly self-motivated with strong passion and enthusiasm.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem resolution and analytical skills, capable of efficiently troubleshooting technical problems and effectively communicating solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work Environment: Proven ability to excel in a fast-paced environment, handling complex issues while remaining composed under pressure.
  • Technical Expertise: Vendor-certified expertise in Tehama, Inovonics, Next Century, Aclara, and Cerenti metering systems.
  • Construction Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of construction, plumbing, and electrical work, particularly in relation to submetering systems.
  • Technical Enthusiasm: Genuine enthusiasm for technology, dedicated to refining skills.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook), TCP/IP, router networking, RF knowledge, and electrical troubleshooting, with the ability to read low voltage wiring and control flow diagrams.
  • Building Systems: Proficient in Building Automation Systems, Smart Grid Electronics, and HVAC controls, including software engineering, commissioning tools, DCC controllers, and field devices. Skilled in integrating proprietary controls platforms with advanced submetering systems.
  • Networking: Skilled in IT networking, structured cabling, networking principles, and wireless protocols.
  • Certifications: HVAC and/or Low Voltage certification, expertise in using a voltmeter and toning out lines.
  • Smart Grid Systems: Experience with proprietary controls and Electrical Smart Grid Systems, including brands like Trane, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Siemens, Distech, Dakin, Eaton, and GE.
  • System Experience: At least 2 years of experience with BACnet or Modbus systems.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work in all-weather environments.
  • Perform physical activities such as walking, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, bending, and climbing a 10-foot ladder.
  • Drive without restrictions, including at night and for long durations.
  • Travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Remote position with availability from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the respective time zone.
  • Flexible to work overtime as needed to meet deadlines.

Compensation may vary depending on your location, qualifications including job-related education, training, experience, licensure, and certification, that could result at a level outside of these ranges. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including annual bonus, and sales incentives depending on the terms of the applicable plan and role as well as individual performance.
