Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, the Sterile Processing Tech Senior ensures all necessary instruments and supplies are prepared and ready for use.
  • The Sterile Processing Tech Senior assembles case carts with instruments and supplies according to preference cards. This position serves as a technical resource on processing, sterilization and assembly to Sterile Processing Technicians.
  • The Sterile Processing Tech Senior observes strict patient confidentiality following all HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • The Sterile Processing Tech Senior maintains a clean and safe environment.
  • Independent actions include assembling and preparing instrument sets and case carts, serving as a technical resource to Sterile Processing Technicians, decontaminating and sterilizing all instruments and equipment according to procedures, checking inventory levels and maintaining par levels for all instruments and supplies, and following OSHA and TJC guidelines.
  • Job duties may include access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
  • In the absence of the supervisor, the incumbent may take a lead role to direct staff and assign tasks to meet departmental demands.
  • Schedule considerations: technicians are expected to rotate shifts including weekends and holidays; shifts and hours of work may be adjusted to meet staffing requirements or unit needs.
Qualifications
  • Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Surgical Tech certification CST or TS-C or CORST.
  • Experience REQUIRED: Two (2) or more years of previous work experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or prior experience as a Surgical Technician.
  • Education/training REQUIRED: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Education/training PREFERRED: Completion of International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) certification preparation course.
  • Independent action(s) required: As above in Responsibilities.
  • Supervisory responsibilities: In the absence of the supervisor, may lead staff and assign tasks to fulfill department needs.
  • Additional position requirements: Rotation of shifts including weekends and holidays; schedules may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing needs.
  • Physical Requirements: Lifting 20-50 lbs; prolonged standing; frequent bending; walking; reaching; repetitive motion; mental and sensory demands as noted; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities in a noisy setting.
