Job summary

Northrop Grumman in San Diego seeks a Sr. Staff Systems Engineer to lead the Triton SEIT Development Program, directing a 45‑50 engineer team through requirements, integration, testing, and verification.

You will serve as CAM, manage cost and schedule, and drive continuous process improvements while mentoring engineers and coordinating with IPTs, customers and suppliers to meet contract deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 14+ years of experience, or Master’s with 12+ years, or PhD with 10+ years.
  • Experience executing the full systems engineering lifecycle and SETRs.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance or higher with recent update.
  • Ability to brief/lead technical discussions with external stakeholders.
  • Capability to obtain SAP clearance when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Triton Systems Engineering Development sub-IPT and manage SE tasking.
  • Collaborate with Chief Engineer, IPTs, suppliers, customers, and PM to define design vision.
  • Drive first-time quality and technical rigor across development efforts.

Sr. Staff Systems Engineer – Triton SEIT Development Lead

Location: Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, CA.

Relocation assistance may be available. Secret clearance is required; travel up to 10% of the time.

Overview

This senior systems engineering role leads a team of 45‑50 engineers in the Triton SEIT Development Program, driving the full lifecycle of systems engineering, from requirements through integration, testing, verification and configuration management, while acting as the Control Account Manager for the team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Triton Systems Engineering Development sub‑IPT in the execution of systems engineering tasking, including requirements development, decomposition and verification, use case development and analysis, Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR), system integration, configuration management, change integration, cybersecurity, EMI/EMC and system safety.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Engineer, IPTs, suppliers, customers and program management to define and execute the design vision for future Triton development capabilities.
  • Drive first‑time quality across Triton development capability design and promote a culture of technical rigor within the Systems Engineering team.
  • Assist in capturing future development work through bids for proposed efforts.
  • Ensure contractual requirements are met for the Systems Engineering team, including timely updating and submission of all contract deliverables (CDRLs) to satisfy customer needs.
  • Ensure timely, cost‑effective execution of systems engineering tasking within the Triton Development Program Portfolio.
  • Act as Control Account Manager (CAM), managing cost and schedule performance for the 45‑50 Equivalent Persons (EP) team.
  • Drive and champion continuous process improvement across various Systems Engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical guidance, leadership and mentorship to the multidisciplinary team to ensure success at all levels.
  • Lead technical anomaly resolution, adjudicate findings for current and future builds, coordinate internal and external technical change/review processes, and manage the program’s technical baseline.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and at least 14 years of relevant military or professional experience; or Master’s degree in a STEM field and at least 12 years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience executing systems engineering processes, including the full systems engineering life cycle and Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR).
  • Experience in Earned Value Management (EVMS) and leading a technical team of 10 Equivalent Persons or greater.
  • Experience briefing or leading technical discussions with outside stakeholders, including other IPTs, customer representatives or supplier personnel.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable time as defined by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with current SCI and/or SAP.
  • Technical leadership experience as IPT/sub‑IPT lead or thread lead in systems engineering, vehicle engineering, avionics, software, electronics, or mission payloads.
  • Experience developing, preparing and defending proposal bids for technical programs.
  • Experience in Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Experience in system‑level or hardware‑in‑the‑loop integration/test, and/or other development activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering specialty disciplines, such as cybersecurity, safety, EMI or Human Factors.
  • Demonstrated championing of technical change that resulted in performance improvements or team efficiencies.
  • Familiarity with HALE ISR UAV programs (Triton, RQ‑4).
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering tools such as TeamCenter PLC, JIRA/Confluence, and DOORS.
  • Demonstrated experience with IFC Development and Management.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a STEM field.
