Overview

GEICO is seeking an experienced software engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. The role involves driving the transformation of the insurance business and modernizing the platform engineering domain to redefine the customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and drive the overall technical roadmap for the Digital Personal Auto Sales, aligning it with the organization’s business goals and objectives.
• Work closely with executive leadership, tech teams, and cross‑discipline stakeholders to build optimal strategy for delivering platform services.
• Leverage technical and domain expertise to influence partners and leadership, creating a force multiplier in achieving milestones in the team’s technical roadmap.
• Provide thought leadership in GIA Platform, staying ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to minimize business disruption while modernizing legacy platform components.
• Lead the design and architecture of resilient and scalable platform services, considering on‑premises and cloud‑based solutions.
• Champion software development best practices and safe deployment processes to enable continuous, incremental delivery of business value.
• Contribute directly to day‑to‑day engineering activities (feature code, automated tests, PRs, CI/CD pipelines, production support).
• Develop and maintain comprehensive incident response plans and support production readiness assessment and operational excellence.
• Evaluate, select, and implement modern technologies and tools to enhance partner integration, including processes, compliance, and visibility.
• Act as a trusted advisor to technical and non‑technical stakeholders and mentor the engineering and product community.
• Analyze cost and forecast, incorporate them into business plans, and support resource requirements and operational processes.

Qualifications

• Fluency in at least one modern language (Go preferred, Java a plus).
• Proven track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining highly scalable, available and reliable systems in production.
• Understanding of security best practices, data encryption, SQL and NoSQL databases, networking, caching, DNS, CDN, load balancing, queues, and global load balancing.
• Deep knowledge of DevOps practices, hybrid cloud architecture, IaaS and PaaS, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), cloud efficiency and observability.
• Strong background in incident management, including playbooks, runbooks, triaging strategies, and post‑incident analysis.
• Experience with open‑source management, monitoring tools, infrastructure automation, tooling, and configuration management frameworks.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes container management system.
• Familiarity with cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
• Excellent leadership skills, mentoring ability, strong problem‑solving and analytical mindset, and excellent communication skills.
• Visionary thinker capable of anticipating future challenges and opportunities.

Experience

• 8+ years of professional experience in software development.
• 6+ years of experience with architecture and design.
• 6+ years of experience with open‑source frameworks.
• 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud service providers.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.

Salary

Annual Salary Range: $115,000.00 – $260,000.00. The final salary is based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market factors.
