Job Title: Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting direct hire opportunity for a Sr. Staff Mechanical Design Engineer with our client located in Berkeley, CA.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Own system-level architecture and design of complete electric powertrains.
2. Lead full-stack mechanical engineering from concept through production.
3. Teach newer mechanical engineers proper processes, CAD practices, PLM practices, and more; level up the engineering caliber of the company.
4. Design hardware, testing fixtures, production tools, product scopes, specifications, and more.
5. Perform calculations, system architecture, CAD design, FEA, rapid prototyping, optimization, PLM/PDM lifecycle management, NPI line management, prototype assembly, manufacturing support, and supplier management.
6. Design for manufacturing, test, reliability, and service.
7. Contribute to longer-term company objectives, such as increasing iteration speed for powertrain development.

Job Qualifications:

1. Strong physics background with 8+ years of extensive mechanical engineering experience and a passion for detail and deep work.
2. Deep expertise with multiple CAD packages; ability to create robust parametric models.
3. Experience owning complex mechanical systems (100+ parts), from architecture sketches to detailed CAD and drawings for high-volume processes.
4. Mastery of GD&T and dimensional tolerancing.
5. Experience working with suppliers to meet quality, cost, and lead time targets.
6. Experience with electric powertrains, electric motors, and gearboxes.
7. Experience taking products from concept to high-volume production.
8. Skilled in root cause analysis, test process development, and reliability issues.
9. Proficient in multi-dimensional tolerance stackups.
10. Adept with CFD, thermal, and mechanical simulation.
11. Excellent communication skills.
12. Motivated and excited to take on responsibility at an early-stage startup.
13. Basic electrical knowledge, including reading schematics and interpreting circuit board layouts and PCBA designs for mechanical integration.
