Position Description
As an integral part of our hardware engineering division, you will lead efforts in the holistic selection, development, integration, and maintenance of server hardware, focusing on CPU and chipset performance, storage, GPU, system integration, and firmware nuances. Your collaboration with cross-functional teams will enhance hardware reliability, efficiency, and foresight in our data centers, laying the foundation for our server infrastructure's future.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will:
- Spearhead the architectural design and enhancement of server hardware, emphasizing CPU, chipset, storage, GPU, and system integration for large-scale data center operations.
- Navigate hardware solutions with ODM partners, focusing on customization that integrates seamlessly with existing and future systems.
- Drive innovation in firmware management, ensuring system stability, performance, and security across server platforms.
- Oversee BMC protocols, including development, deployment, and maintenance, ensuring reliable and secure remote management.
- Utilize Metal as a Service (MaaS) to automate server provisioning and improve operational efficiency.
- Supervise server fleet health, focusing on upgrades, maintenance, and quick response to hardware and firmware issues.
- Develop automation scripts using Terraform, Ansible, Python, Linux, and Bash for hardware management tasks.
- Collaborate with network engineering to optimize data center functionality considering hardware and firmware compatibility.
- Manage hardware lifecycle strategies, assessing performance, cost, and longevity from procurement to decommissioning.
- Contribute to open-source hardware initiatives, especially those related to integration, BMC, and firmware.
- Support cloud service architecture, balancing hardware capabilities with performance, reliability, and cost.
- Stay informed about industry innovations in CPU, chipset, storage, GPU, firmware, and BMC, leading adaptation efforts.
Qualifications
- Expertise in server hardware architecture, focusing on CPU, chipset, storage, and GPU standards.
- Experience in firmware management strategies ensuring reliability and security.
- Proven experience with BMC solutions for remote server management.
- Background in open hardware standards and community contributions.
- Mastery of MaaS and automation practices for server management.
- Scripting and automation skills in Terraform, Ansible, Python, Linux, Bash.
- Understanding of hardware and network integration in large data centers.
- Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced, interdisciplinary teams.
- Industry certifications related to hardware, firmware, or data centers are a plus.
Required Experience
- 10+ years in server hardware engineering, focusing on CPU, chipset, firmware, and BMC.
- 6+ years managing large-scale data centers with emphasis on hardware performance and security.
- Experience leading hardware projects from concept to implementation.
- 6+ years working with OEMs and ODMs on hardware design and optimization.
- 5+ years working with security protocols like Active Directory, SAML, OAuth.
- Experience with large, high-availability infrastructure systems.
- Hands-on experience with Redfish, BMC, IPMI standards.
- Experience with cloud storage solutions like SAN, JBOD.
- 4+ years in collaborative software development environments.
- Scripting/coding in C/C++, Bash, Python, or Go for hardware management.
