Job Summary
This position is in a small, focused, geotechnical team charged with influencing and executing Murphy’s Exploration efforts.
The Senior Staff Geophysicist will be a Rock Physics Specialist – and have a proven track record of supporting Exploration and New Ventures teams. They will have a history of varied technical exposure to many global basins, depositional systems, and petroleum systems.
They will be a self-starter who is comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be proficient in using well data for petrophysics & rock physics analysis and pre-stack seismic modelling to support reservoir characterization and QI workflows such as EEI.
The candidate will demonstrate an expert proficiency in software such as RokDoc, Hampson-Russell or similar (Pre-Stack Pro, Helios etc) to undertake Exploration scale seismic inversions.
The Senior Staff Geophysicist must exhibit a team first mentality and workflow. While they are expected to work independently and in small teams, broader collaboration across exploration, sub-surface, and business development is required to generate new ideas and deliver timely evaluations.
As a Specialist, you will be a recognized expert within Murphy, as well as well-connected in the wider Industry. They are expected to both formally, and informally, provide technical input to a wider range of Murphy projects. You will be a leader in exemplifying good exploration process and will promote technical improvement and excellence across the organization. Additionally, they are expected to openly and willingly mentor and coach less experienced staff, attend and participate in peer assists / reviews, and work with management to define processes around project QA/QC and due diligence.
Additional beneficial skills include an understanding of geologic models for resource estimation and risk application utilizing statistical software such as RoseRA, basic proficiency in geological / geophysical interpretation suites such as Petrel, Insight, Kingdom and Paleoscan.
The Senior Staff Geophysicist will be required to present to the highest levels of Murphy Management and to represent Murphy in meetings with external partners and governments. Accordingly, a demonstrated ability to construct a story, document results, develop a concise supporting presentation to clearly support recommendations is imperative.
The Senior Staff Geophysicist will in our Houston Corporate office and may work up to two (2) days a week remotely, as the business needs allow.
