Abbott seeks a Sr Staff Embedded Software Engineer in Alameda to lead development, verification, and validation of embedded biosensor software, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with FDA design controls.

You will provide technical leadership, mentor teams, and collaborate with QA and cross-functional groups to deliver high-quality software across the full development life cycle.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering mathematics, or related field with 10+ years of experience.
• Master's degree with 7+ years of related experience.
• Ph.D. with 2+ years of related experience.
• Good knowledge of software engineering principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Programming experience in C.
• Experience with structured software development and/or Object Modeling Design.
• Experience with embedded systems for safety-critical products.
• Strong debugging techniques and embedded debuggers.
• Knowledge of device driver and low-level interfaces.
• Experience in model-based design is highly desirable.
• Experience with medical device development processes and FDA 510K/ PMA regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of RF and BLE software design, device driver configuration, and tests preferred.
• Leadership/mentorship capabilities.
• Experience with Source Control Management is highly preferred.
• Experience with testing embedded devices is a strong plus.

The Opportunity:

This position is located in our Alameda, California location. The Sr Staff Embedded Software Engineer leads the development, verification, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to FDA-compliant design control procedures. They provide technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic advice, working independently to identify new technologies and implement process improvements. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, they ensure high-quality software delivery and contribute to the full development life cycle from specification to support.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering Mathematics, or related field, with 10+ years of experience, master's degree with 7+ years of related experience, or Ph.D. with 2+ years of related experience.


• Good knowledge of software engineering principles required.


• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.


• Programming experience in C programming languages required.


• Experience with structured software development and/or Object Modeling Design experience required.


• Experience with software development of embedded systems for safety-critical products required.


• Strong debugging techniques and experience of using debuggers in an embedded environment is required.


• Excellent troubleshooting skills.


• Knowledgeable of device driver and low-level device interface design and development is required.


• Experience in model-based design (UML or SysML), is highly desirable.


• Detailed experience with medical device development processes and FDA 510K and PMA regulatory requirement.


• Good knowledge of and experience in RF and BLE software design, device driver configuration, and tests are preferred.


• Preferred team leadership experience and demonstrated mentorship capabilities.


• Experience with Source Control Management is highly preferred.


• Experience with testing embedded devices is a strong plus.

The base pay for this position is

$130,700.00 - $261,300.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
