Job summary

Abbott in Alameda, CA is seeking an experienced software infrastructure engineer to drive the next generation of bio-wearables development. You will build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software, ensuring safety, quality, and reliability in a medical devices context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of experience in Engineering or related field, or Master’s with 7+ years, or Doctorate with 2+ years.
• Expert knowledge in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bitbucket CI, GitHub Actions, etc.).
• Expert knowledge in scripting languages that run on Windows 11 and Linux containers (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
• Experience with embedded software test infrastructure or Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.
• Experience with software development life cycle processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software projects.
• Design multi-worker systems robust to hardware failures and upgrade outages.
• Collaborate with embedded engineers to build infrastructure-as-code for automated on-target testing of medical devices.
• Work with cross functional teams to develop metrics on infrastructure impact on velocity, reliability, and cost.
• Document testing infrastructure for ease of use.
• Prepare run books for testing infrastructure for self-resolution of common problems.
• Evaluate new technology alternatives and train others on CI/CD initiatives.
• Lead projects by developing schedules, planning and purchasing infrastructure and SW licensing within budget.
• Offer strategic solutions and advice for future development.
• Support regulatory compliance by FDA and other global agencies.

This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, where we are focused on helping people manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate biometric data to drive better-informed decisions. What you’ll do:

• Plan, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software projects.

• Offer strategic solutions, analysis, and advice regarding identified issues for future development.
• Support company initiatives andcomplywithregulatory requirements by FDA and other relevant globalregulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree with 8+years of experience in Engineering or related field or master’s degree with 7+ years of experience or Doctorate Degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Expert knowledge in CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bitbucket CI, GitHub Actions, etc.).
• Expert knowledge in scripting languages that run on both Windows 11 systems and Linux cloud containers (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
• Experience with embedded software test infrastructure or Hardware-in-the-Loop testing.
• Experience with software development life cycle processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent knowledge and experience in communications design and test using Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, TCP/IP is a plus.
• Experience working with safety critical software systems especially in the medical device space.
• Practical experience in embedded software languages (C, C++, assembly, etc.).
• Knowledge of the principles of quality software engineering as described by software lifecycle development processes that are consistent with ISO, IEEE, or other FDA recognized standards.
• Knowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development.

The base pay for this position is $114,000.00 – $228,000.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
