Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Sr Staff Architect (SQL Database) to design secure, scalable healthcare SaaS databases handling PHI/PII with HIPAA/HITECH compliance. You will architect multi-tenant data platforms, encryption, and governance for real-time access and high availability.

You will collaborate with security, compliance, and engineering teams, lead data migrations with EHR/EMR integrations, and guide CI/CD practices for database changes in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive industry experience in enterprise technology, architecture, and systems management.
  • 7+ years of experience in database architecture, preferably in SaaS environments
  • Prior experience building data pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory or similar
  • Strong experience with data lake architectures (AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, Google Cloud Storage)
  • Proven experience designing or managing data farm / distributed data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Databricks)
  • Hands‑on experience handling sensitive data (PHI, PII/PPI) in regulated environments
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA compliance, data privacy, and security frameworks
  • Expertise in relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and non‑relational systems such as Cosmos DB, MongoDB
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), especially healthcare-compliant services
  • Proficiency in data encryption, key management, and RBAC
  • Strong understanding of scaling strategies and distributed systems
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Sr Staff Architect (SQL Database) to design and manage secure, scalable, and compliant database systems for our healthcare SaaS platform. This role requires expertise in handling sensitive data, including PII/PPI and PHI, while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and delivering high-performance, multi-tenant solutions.

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Security Specialty, Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP)

  • Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Indiana is $135,800.00–$203,750.00.
