Job summary

Ford is seeking a senior Android framework engineer to design and implement core components within the Android platform for its EVDD teams. You will contribute to performance, reliability, and security of the IVI stack and collaborate with product, UX, and hardware teams to define technical solutions.

The role emphasizes leadership at level 5 with strong Google/Android OS expertise, HAL integration, and IPC mechanisms. Hybrid work model, competitive salary range, visa sponsorship available.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience, particularly in Android development and AOSP-based platforms.
• Strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, and C/C++.
• Familiarity with Rust is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Android OS internals, lifecycle management, services, and IPC methods (Binder).
• Proven experience in developing and integrating hardware abstraction layers (HAL).
• Familiarity with AIDL for IPC mechanisms.
• Proficient in Agile practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to analyze and optimize system performance with focus on user experience.

What you’ll do...

You’ll have...

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience, particularly in Android development and AOSP-based platforms.
• Strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, and C/C++; familiarity with Rust is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Android OS internals, lifecycle management, services, and IPC methods (Binder).
• Proven experience in developing and integrating hardware abstraction layers (HAL) to facilitate communication between hardware and software.
• Familiarity with Android Interface Definition Language (AIDL) for defining and managing IPC mechanisms.
• Proficient in using modern development tools and methodologies, including Agile practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to analyze and optimize system performance while considering user experience.

This position is a leadership level 5 and ranges from $167,200-$316,600. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
