Job Description

The Staff Accountant performs duties in Accounting and Finance. They manage various accounting, finance and administrative functions at their assigned location(s), as well as Corporate Vistar contacts as needed to discuss, understand and review the financial impact of functions within their scope. The Staff Accountant will need to be able to interpret, evaluate and explain the impact of these functions on financial reports, like the Profit & Loss (P&L) Statement, Balance Sheet (B/S) and other various financial reports. The Staff Accountant will prepare and submit journal entries, analytics, and reports to various levels of management as required by the business. They will be responsible for overseeing and evaluating complicated financial functions and tasks with accuracy, analysis and critical thinking. The Staff Accountant functions as a team member within the department and organization as required and performs any duty assigned to best serve the company. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the OpCo Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Responsible for assigned Accounting and Finance functions for Operating Company(ies), or OpCo(s). This may include request for adjustment/customer credits (RFA's), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), inventory adjustments, payroll, or other financial-impacting functions.
  • Create, analyze, and interpret reporting for functional responsibilities
  • Prepares Journal Entries (JE's)
  • Assist with month-end analysis, review, reporting and financial results for OpCo(s)
  • Oversee, support, and/or backup for some administrative functions as needed
  • Work cross-functionally with various departments, managers and leadership to discuss, interpret, and gather information used to perform assigned duties
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), accounting policies, internal controls, reporting deadlines and overall OpCo compliance
  • Assist with review of P&L, B/S and other various financial reports throughout the month
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

2-5 years of General Ledger and Financial Accounting experience

Strong computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required, to include creating pivot tables, v lookups, sumifs on regular basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters/MBA or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

5+ years of Financial Accounting or Operations experience (preferably in food distribution environment)

Public accounting experience is a plus
