Mail Intelligence Platform

This platform builds the next-generation services that enable Yahoo to deliver personalized content to users across various modes of consumption. It processes billions of messages (several petabytes of data) using advanced algorithms to extract information, build knowledge, and interconnect data sources. The platform faces challenges in natural language processing, machine learning, and big data processing, and you will develop tools to manage and act on this information, creating innovative applications for Yahoo.

About You

• Quick learner, intrigued by designing scalable, complex, reliable software systems.
• Self-motivated engineer with experience in building scalable distributed data processing systems handling terabytes of data.
• Passionate about the role of data in knowledge work, especially data from the web and Yahoo Mail corpus.
• Committed to writing high-quality code and expecting the same from peers.
• Excellent communication skills, experienced in detailed design, automated testing, and deployment.
• Experience with scale at companies like Yahoo, Google, Facebook. A team player thriving in fast-paced environments.
• Comfortable working remotely.

Your Day

• Research and develop algorithms for information retrieval, processing, and ranking.
• Build and optimize tools and systems for data extraction.
• Improve information extraction with machine learning and NLP techniques.
• Participate in agile development.
• Collaborate with research scientists on machine learning models for classification, extraction, and recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

• MS in Computer Science or related field with strong fundamentals.
• Experience in algorithm design and ML/AI.
• Proficiency in Java or Python.
• Knowledge of data mining, text processing, classification algorithms.
• Problem-solving skills, initiative, and excellent communication.
• At least 2 years in applied ML and 5 years in backend systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scalable distributed processing technologies like Hadoop, HBase, Pig, Oozie.
• Experience with TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Background in Information Retrieval and data extraction.
• Understanding of statistical methods and exploratory data analysis.
