The UMB Alternative Investments - Support team provides support to the development of the software used by our Fund Accountants, external Alternative Investment client teams, and Investors to manage the investment portfolio. This software gives them competitive advantages within the evolving Alternative Investments industry, offering exciting opportunities to learn new skills, administer new tools, and grow their careers.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will support full-stack development and enhancements for UMB’s web applications related to Alternative Investments, along with other applications. You will collaborate with the team to design and build enterprise solutions, seek ways to improve development efficiency, and implement best practices. This role involves multiple initiatives as assigned by IT leadership.

This is a hybrid role (2 days on-site) for candidates in Kansas City, MO and Ogden, UT, and open to qualified remote candidates within the US.

How You’ll Spend Your Time

1. Assist in designing and implementing cloud-based architecture, influencing system architecture and platform design for multiple products/verticals.
2. Deliver high-availability services and create responsive, performant, and maintainable websites, building scalable solutions in cloud infrastructure using common design patterns.
3. Become a domain expert on the Alternative Investments business and systems.
4. Assist in driving the team’s technical strategy and implementation of key coding principles.
5. Provide mentorship to team members and foster a learning environment.

We’re Excited To Talk With You If

• You have at least 7 years of experience supporting or designing cloud-based technologies as a senior-level software engineer, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or similar with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• You have at least 2 years of experience with cloud technologies like AWS or Azure, including Serverless, Containers, Observability, and Security.
• You have in-depth experience with APIs or GraphQL for data serving, utilizing technologies such as React.js and/or Angular.
• You have strong experience with Node.js for back-end development.
• You are familiar with relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases (DynamoDB), and comfortable writing SQL and NoSQL queries.
• You have working knowledge of Terraform, CI/CD, or DevOps.

Bonus Points If

• You have experience building microservices applications.
• You have worked in event-driven architecture and/or with domain-driven design.
• You have experience using Terraform with GitHub Actions.
