Job description

The Senior Software Engineer will join PanAgora’s Investment Engineering group and serve as a hands‑on technical partner to the teams that drive our investment business. This role designs, develops, and supports the proprietary applications that power the full investment lifecycle — spanning Investment Compliance, Portfolio Construction and Trading, Investment Operations, Sales and Client Reporting.

Working within a collaborative engineering team, the successful candidate will help shape the design, implementation, and evolution of the firm’s Investment Engineering platform while aligning with broader firmwide technology initiatives. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on building reliable, scalable business applications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Application Design & Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain proprietary applications supporting investment compliance, portfolio construction and trading, investment operations, sales and client reporting workflows.
  • Implement and support investment compliance controls, including pre- and post-trade rule checks and related monitoring workflows, in partnership with the Compliance team.
  • Build scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems using modern software engineering practices.
  • Develop APIs, microservices, and event-driven solutions that integrate with internal platforms and external vendors, custodians, and data providers.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and establish best practices for software design, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Drive continuous improvement of development standards, code quality, testing, and deployment processes.
Business Partnership & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work directly with Compliance, Portfolio Managers, Traders, Investment Operations, Sales and Client Reporting teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Participate in requirements gathering, solution design, and prioritization discussions across multiple business teams.
  • Serve as a trusted technology partner to business stakeholders, providing technical guidance and recommendations.
  • Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices across the team.
Production Support & Operations
  • Monitor and support production applications critical to daily trading, compliance, operations, and reporting processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems and data platforms.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation supporting critical end‑of‑day, trading, compliance, and reporting cycles.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures to improve platform stability and reliability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or a closely related field).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience, including significant experience building enterprise business applications.
  • Expertise in one or more modern object‑oriented programming languages and backend frameworks, such as C# / .NET, Java, or Python; relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL); and RESTful APIs / service‑oriented architectures.
  • Expertise in building and deploying applications on cloud technologies, including Microsoft Azure (App Service, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure SQL, Azure Functions, and Service Bus) or Amazon Web Services (EC2, EKS, RDS, Lambda, and S3).
  • Experience designing and implementing microservices‑based systems.
  • Experience with event‑driven architecture and messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ, NServiceBus, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of software design patterns, distributed systems, and system integration.
  • Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact directly with business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within investment management, capital markets, or financial services.
  • Experience developing front‑end applications.
  • Experience supporting business‑critical applications in a front‑ or middle‑office environment.
  • Familiarity with modern AI development workflows, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, AI‑powered coding assistants, and AI‑assisted code review and testing tools, while maintaining strong engineering standards.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
