Apple Inc. in Sunnyvale, California is seeking a Sr Software Engineer to join IS&T Infrastructure Services to design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure that powers Apple’s global services.

You’ll work on distributed systems, networking, and storage at scale, using Go, C++, Java, and modern APIs, while ensuring reliability, performance, and security in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Qualifications

• 10 years of hands-on software development with 4+ years in scalable distributed control planes or SDN controllers.
• Deep knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, dual-stack, routing, IPAM, NAT.
• DNS implementations; traffic steering and stateful connection tracking.
• Proficiency in Go, C, or Python; willingness to work primarily in Go.
• Understanding of concurrency patterns and high-performance code.
• Leadership in cross-functional alignment on multi-cloud networking and design.
• Root-causing networking issues in HA environments with robust telemetry.

Description

We’re looking for passionate folks who love building super-scalable, reliable, and user-friendly systems to support one of the world’s biggest cloud infrastructures. You’ll be designing, building, and running new services that help lead virtualized networks, computing, and storage. Responsibilities

• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Java, C++, Go, scripting languages, Git, and configuration management systems.
• Architectural Expertise: Experience in building scalable services, architectural design, data structures, algorithms, microservice architectures, and APIs.
• Problem-Solving and Communication: Strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, deliver on bold deadlines, and drive closures, and the ability to prioritize and debug production issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• 10 years of hands-on experience in software development, with at least 4+ years focused on building highly scalable distributed control planes, cloud orchestration engines or software-defined networking (SDN) controllers
• Deep working knowledge of L3/L4 networking - IPv4/IPv6, dual-stack, Routing, IPAM, NAT,
• DNS implementations. Strong understanding of traffic steering, policy-based routing, and stateful connection tracking.
• Strong proficiency in GoLang, C, or Python, with a willingness to work primarily in GoLang.
• A solid understanding of concurrency patterns and writing high-performance code.
• Demonstrated leadership in driving cross-functional technical alignment, breaking down
• complex multi-cloud networking requirements, and fostering a culture of rigorous design and
• Proven track record of root-causing complex networking anomalies (split-brain scenarios, packet drops) within High-Availability (HA) environments, alongside a history of building robust telemetry and logging systems for production monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications

• Broad experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and micro-services architectures.
• Hands-on experience managing cloud provider networking resources programmatically via APIs/
• SDKs in at least one major cloud environment (AWS, GCP).
• Proven experience defining the automation strategy, infrastructure-as-code paradigms
• (Terraform/OpenTofu), and continuous deployment pipelines (ArgoCD, GitLab CI) for complex
• cloud environments.
• Experience working with Linux network virtualization constructs (network namespaces, iptables/nftables, eBPF, routing tables), or developing custom network virtual appliances.
• Experience in OVS, Container & Kube networking

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $324,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
