Job summary

Salesforce, Inc. is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join our Public Cloud Engineering teams. You will build and operate large-scale distributed systems, write infrastructure-as-code, and develop microservices on Kubernetes/Docker across multiple data centers.

You should have 5+ years of Python backend development, strong Linux and cloud architecture fundamentals, and hands-on experience with GCP/AWS/Azure. Join us to drive reliability, security and performance at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development with Python.
• Hands-on Linux systems administration and cloud architecture.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals.
• Proven Python programming experience.
• Strong understanding of OOP, data structures, algorithms and concurrency.
• Public cloud experience on GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Infrastructure provisioning and migration at cloud scale.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Infrastructure automation tools like Terraform, Puppet, Ansible, Spinnaker, and Git.
• Networking basics: DNS, load balancing, TLS, TCP/IP, HTTP.

• Deliver cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows and validation platforms.
• Design, develop, debug and operate resilient distributed systems across data centers.
• Contribute to open source technologies and develop Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Balance live-site management with feature delivery and debt retirement.
• Participate in on-call rotations to keep services operational and available.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

• Deliver cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows, and validation platforms on our public cloud platforms
• Designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers
• Using and contributing to open source technology
• Developing Infrastructure-as-Code
• Writing microservices on containerization frameworks such as Kubernetes, Docker, Mesos
• Resolving complex technical issues and drive innovations that improve system availability, resilience, and performance
• Balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt
• Participate in the team's on-call rotation to address complex problems in real-time and keep services operational and highly available

You're Our Person If You Have:

• Minimum of 5+ years of backend software development experience (Python) working with Cloud Architecture
• In-depth, hands‑on experience with Linux Systems Administration and Troubleshooting, servers, and Cloud architecture.
• Good knowledge of Linux internals.
• Proven professional work experience with Python.
• In-depth understanding of OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
• Public cloud engineering on GCP, AWS, and or Azure platforms.
• Cloud provisioning, infrastructure, and migration at cloud scale.
• Use of AI assisted development tools to automate DNS and infrastructure management.
• Solid understanding of configuring, deploying, managing, and maintaining large cloud-hosted systems.
• Experience with container and orchestration systems like Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools like Splunk, Puppet, Spinnaker, Terraform, git, etc.
• Strong understanding of fundamental network technologies like DNS, Load Balancing, SSL, TCP/IP, SQL, HTTP, Switches, Routers.
• CI/CD experience with tools like Jenkins, and Travis CI.
• Implementation experience of large infrastructure projects.
• A continuous learner, a critical thinker, and a team player with excellent communication skills.
• Embrace a culture and work environment that promotes diversity and inclusion.
• Configuration management with open-source tools, ideally Puppet, Chef, Salt, or Ansible.
• Experience maintaining monitoring platforms like Grafana.
• Experience with Agile development methodology and Test Driven Development

• Experience using AWS Route 53.
• Working in high-availability, 24x7x365 large-scale multi-datacenter environment
• Highly skilled in packet analysis, network analysis tools, troubleshooting, and analytical fault diagnosis.
• Security hardening of network infrastructure, such as DNSSEC

The typical base salary range for this position is $148,500 - $223,900 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $178,900 - $246,000 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
