Job description

Hiring: Senior Software Engineer - Command & Control (C2)

Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a security clearance. An active clearance is not required.

Evona is partnered with a growing space technology company that is transforming how satellite fleets are operated through modern software.

We're searching for a Senior Software Engineer to develop the low-level Command & Control software connecting its platform to a wide variety of spacecraft.

This is not high-level mission orchestration. The engineer will build the actual ground-to-vehicle communication layer-formatting commands, transmitting them through ground-based RF systems, receiving telemetry and ensuring different spacecraft can communicate reliably with one unified platform.

Prior aerospace experience is valuable, but it is not required.

We are also interested in engineers from telecommunications, wireless systems, networking, robotics, autonomous vehicles, IoT, industrial automation and other industries involving communication with physical hardware.

What we're looking for:
  • Approximately 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent technical depth
  • Strong Python development skills; Rust experience is valuable
  • Experience building software that communicates with remote machines, embedded devices, radios, vehicles or other physical systems
  • Hands-on experience implementing machine-to-machine communication protocols
  • Knowledge of binary serialization, encoding, packetization, framing, transport, sequencing, acknowledgements, error handling or state management
  • Experience taking a protocol or interface specification through implementation, testing, troubleshooting and production operation
  • Ability to explain the complete journey of information from one physical system to another
  • Strong systems thinking and comfort solving ambiguous hardware/software integration problems
  • Experience with satellite telemetry and commanding, TT&C, CCSDS, CSP, CFDP, XTCE or MIB is highly valuable but not essential.
  • Kubernetes, DevSecOps, encryption, relational databases and time-series databases are additional advantages.

Hybrid - approximately two days per week onsite
