Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience solving complex problems involving sophisticated, distributed, data-driven, and highly performant software applications.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience in C++ and Python.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud architectures and leveraging cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience improving software development, quality assurance, release, and deployment processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party software systems and design/build components from scratch.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, and core relational database concepts.
  • Professional experience working in Linux environments and proficiency with command line tools and shell scripting.
  • Experience using Git or comparable source code management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to work in a distributed environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex, data-driven software components and systems, with a primary focus on C++ and Python.
  • Contribute to the architectural direction of the product by evaluating technologies and cloud-based architectures.
  • Build and improve testing infrastructure while developing automated tests to improve quality and reliability.
  • Partner with operations teams to investigate and resolve production issues and implement permanent improvements.
  • Develop internal tools to improve deployment, administration, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with product teams to understand, clarify, and refine feature requirements and technical specifications.
  • Establish and continuously improve software development standards, engineering practices, quality processes, and deployment workflows.
  • Evaluate whether to integrate third-party technologies or build components in-house based on requirements and maintainability.
  • Contribute to technical discussions and engineering initiatives across a distributed team.
  • Participate in interviewing and evaluating candidates for engineering positions.

Accountabilities

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another relevant technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience solving complex problems involving sophisticated, distributed, data-driven, and highly performant software applications.
  • Strong hands-on programming experience in multiple languages, including professional proficiency in both C++ and Python.
  • Experience working with AWS or comparable cloud technology stacks, with a solid understanding of how to leverage cloud architectures effectively.
  • Experience improving software development, quality assurance, release, and deployment processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate third-party software systems as well as design and build components from the ground up.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, SQL, and core relational database concepts.
  • Professional experience working in Linux environments and confidence using the command line and shell tools.
  • Ability to write effective shell scripts and one-liners while recognizing when a more robust software solution is appropriate.
  • Experience using Git or comparable source code management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through technically complex challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively in a distributed environment, both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, and task-management skills.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of technical work while collaborating across engineering, product, and operations functions.
