Job description

Natera is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our R&D team, focusing on building and maintaining scalable cloud infrastructure for computational workflows. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between cloud architecture and scientific computing, with a strong foundation in both traditional software engineering and modern cloud technologies.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Design, implement, and maintain cloud-native applications using Kubernetes and AWS services
2. Architect and optimize container-based workflow systems for high-performance computing
3. Collaborate with bioinformaticians and scientists to translate computational requirements into scalable solutions
4. Lead technical design discussions and mentor junior engineers
5. Implement infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
6. Establish best practices for CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
7. Optimize resource utilization and cost management in cloud environments
8. Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
2. Strong proficiency in at least one programming language
3. Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, deployment patterns, and operational aspects
4. Extensive experience with AWS services (EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, VPC)
5. Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Apache Airflow, Argo, or similar)
6. Proven track record of designing and implementing microservices architectures
7. Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability solutions
8. Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
9. Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams

NICE TO HAVE:

1. Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools and file formats
2. Experience with scientific workflow languages (WDL, Nextflow, Snakemake)
3. Knowledge of batch processing systems and HPC environments
4. Contributions to open-source projects
5. Experience with data privacy and compliance requirements in healthcare/biotech
6. Background in computational biology or related field

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
