Job summary

McGraw Hill is hiring a Senior Full Stack Engineer for our eCommerce team, focusing on pricing engine and core commerce. You’ll work with Angular on the frontend and Go/Java on the backend, while owning AWS infrastructure (ECS/Lambda) and infrastructure-as-code via Terraform.

You’ll collaborate with product, design, and QA to deliver scalable pricing, discounts, and catalog features that support millions of learners and educators. This is a remote role in the United States.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience building production web apps (full-stack).
• Strong background in Go for backend services and Java production systems.
• Proficiency with Angular (v12+), HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, and JavaScript fundamentals.
• Experience with AWS and serverless/container deployments (ECS/Lambda).
• Terraform for infrastructure as code and data stores understanding (PostgreSQL/Oracle).
• Familiar with Elasticsearch, RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with Playwright for tests and K6 for load testing.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, Agile tools (Jira/Confluence).
• Strong communication and collaboration across distributed teams in ET hours.

Responsibilities

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our eCommerce engineering team, with a strong focus on feature development for our pricing engine and core commerce platform. You'll design and build the systems that calculate, apply, and manage pricing, discounts, and promotions at scale — working across our core stack of Angular, Go, and Java, and taking ownership of the AWS infrastructure those services run on. This role is well suited to an engineer who is equally comfortable shipping production features, reasoning about distributed system design, and owning infrastructure-as-code in a cloud-native environment.

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

What You’ll Do

• Own the end-to-end project plan for rolling out our enterprise AI tool across business and technology teams, from provisioning and access through change management and adoption tracking.
• Design, build, and ship new features for our pricing engine and eCommerce platform, including pricing rules, discounts, promotions, and catalog-related capabilities.
• Develop and maintain web applications using Angular for the frontend and Go (Golang) and Java for backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA to define, scope, and deliver features that directly impact millions of learners and educators.
• Architect robust, scalable, low-latency systems and microservices capable of handling high-throughput pricing and checkout traffic.
• Own and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure supporting the pricing platform, including services running on ECS and AWS Lambda.
• Write and maintain Terraform to provision, version, and manage infrastructure as code.
• Design and query data stores across PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Elasticsearch to support pricing, catalog, and search use cases.
• Implement caching and other performance strategies to keep pricing calculations and lookups fast under load.
• Conduct performance tuning and load testing (e.g., using K6) to validate the pricing engine holds up under peak traffic.
• Build and maintain automated end-to-end test coverage using Playwright, and champion strong testing practices across the team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to pricing accuracy, application performance, and infrastructure.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across backend architecture, deployment pipelines, and developer tooling.
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and mentorship of other engineers.

What You Bring:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining production web applications, with strong depth in both frontend and backend development.
• Strong, hands-on experience with Go (Golang) for building high-performance backend services, APIs, and microservices.
• Solid professional experience with Java in production backend systems.
• Proficiency with Angular (v12+), including modules, components, services, RxJS, and state management, along with strong HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, and JavaScript fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including container-based deployment on ECS and serverless workloads using Lambda.
• Working knowledge of Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL and/or Oracle) and Elasticsearch, including data modeling and query optimization.
• Experience with RESTful API design and implementation, and familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture patterns.
• Hands-on experience with test automation using Playwright and performance/load testing using K6 (or similar tools).
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and software architecture patterns (MVC, microservices, event-driven, etc.), with the judgment to reason about trade-offs at scale.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with APM and logging/observability platforms for monitoring and diagnosing production systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams during Eastern Time Zone core hours.

Compensation & Benefits

The pay range for this position is between $124,300 - $160,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
