Sr Software Engineer - Disney Cruise Line

We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across various lines of business including Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation, and Merchandise, as well as other initiatives like MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!

This role is within the Disney Cruise Line Onboard Applications organization, under Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It collaborates closely with Product Management and Engineers across the company.

The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Manager, Technology – Onboard Applications.

About The Role & Team:
  • The Onboard Guest Fulfillment Team manages over 30 onboard applications that enhance the guest experience, including property management, point of sale, embarkation, onboard activities, door locks, dining, and more.
  • This role focuses on the Embarkation Application but requires the ability to work across multiple teams.
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead small projects involving analysis, design, programming, debugging, and software enhancements or new product development in local, networked, cloud-based, or internet-related environments.
  • Perform testing and debugging of applications.
  • Develop code for commercial, end-user applications, or supporting infrastructure and platforms.
  • Code at the component level for large or sophisticated systems.
  • Utilize current programming languages and technologies, demonstrating strong coding skills.
  • Interact with users to define system requirements and modifications.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement software components, fixes, and new systems.
  • Design scalable software systems and applications.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Expertise in Java and/or Node.js, with experience in open-source technologies like Spring, Tomcat, Nginx, Elastic Search, etc.
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment.
  • Proficiency in Software Engineering, with a proactive approach to learning and mastering emerging data engineering tools and methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn Flutter.
  • Experience with full application lifecycle including testing, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD, and Docker.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • API design and RESTful services development expertise.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Rancher, SQL, Oracle, AWS, Azure, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools like Grafana, App Dynamics, Log Insight, Splunk, Git, performance tuning.
  • Experience as a software architect on mid to large modular projects.
  • Proven ability to develop high-volume, fault-tolerant, scalable systems.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience.
Preferred Education:
  • Master’s degree in relevant fields.
