Job summary

McGraw Hill in Columbus, OH is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for our Learning Tools team. You will design, build, and lead delivery of services used in Higher Ed, across frontend, backend, and infrastructure, with a focus on scalability and accessibility.

You will work in a hybrid environment with remote options, collaborating with product managers to define requirements, implement CI/CD, and mentor junior engineers while keeping customer empathy at the forefront.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of software development experience.
• Experience with Angular frontend.
• Hands-on full-stack development across frontend, backend, databases, and infra.
• Strong understanding of design patterns and architectural principles.
• Strong understanding of Accessibility (A11y) guidelines.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.

To support our growing digital learning platform, we are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our Learning Tools team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and leading the delivery of services used in Higher Ed, and you will operate within a general office environment, including remote work.

What will you be doing?

• Design and develop scalable, efficient, and maintainable software solutions across the frontend, backend/API, database, and infrastructure layers

We are looking for someone having:

• 4+ years of experience in product or enterprise software development
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred
• Experience with frontend frameworks, specifically Angular
• Strong hands‑on experience across the full software stack, including frontend, backend/API, databases, and infrastructure
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and architectural principles
• Strong understanding of Accessibility guidelines
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Proven technical abilities in software development, testing, monitoring, performance tuning, and deployment pipelines
• Focus on application quality and testing practices such as unit, integration, and e2e testing, code coverage analysis, and automated software inspection
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Passion for engineering best practices
• Strong sense of customer empathy and a commitment to delighting customers
• Ability to work across functional and domain boundaries to deliver software on time and with quality
• Angular 12+, Node.js, RESTful Web Services, CI/CD, Docker, Terraform, AWS, MySQL, and A11y experience preferred
• PHP, Go, Python, or other backend language experience is a plus

The pay range for this position is between $124,300 - $140,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Additionally, a full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offered.
