We are hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer working primarily on the Device Components and Tier-1 cloud services for platform solutions used in all Amazon Devices like Over-the-Air updates and bidirectional Device - Cloud communication.
Our engineers are top-notch software developers who love listening to the customers, working as a team, and proactively taking the lead on complex software problems. A Senior SDE is responsible for leading the definition, creation and delivery of software solutions that have the potential to impact hundreds of millions customers around the world. In this role, you will own design and development of key portions of these solutions, while leading other engineers. You will have influence on system design and help build a team culture around practices that are critical to a quality product.

Key job responsibilities
Work on the architecture definition for solutions used in all Amazon Devices.
Take a long-term view of architecture, proactively fixing deficiencies and/or proposing larger projects.
Drive engineering best practices (e.g., Operational Excellence, Security, Quality, etc.) and set standards for your team and related teams.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of key Device Component features.
Will work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility.
Will work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software.
Development experience defining, developing and maintaining REST based interfaces is a plus.
A day in the life
Communicate with other business teams in E-Reader/Tablet/Fire-TV/Alexa to name a few.
Collect the business requirements,
Help describe software product features,
Build technical designs and architecture.
Write code with at most care for customer data security and customer's privacy.
About the team
The Cloud Connectivity and Management Services Team (C2MS) owns the Cloud Services and Device components used to support critical use cases like Persistent connectivity to all Amazon Devices, Over-the-Air software updates, bidirectional communication between Amazon Devices and the Amazon Cloud.
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
