Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Seattle is seeking a Software Development Engineer to design and build scalable, distributed systems that power AWS services.

You will collaborate with cross-functional Amazonians to deliver impactful features and drive data-driven improvements across a large cloud platform. The role requires 5+ years of professional software development, architecture leadership, and mentoring experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years.

About The Team

Network Capacity Services ensures that planned network hardware converts to live capacity — serving traffic when and where it is needed across AWS's global infrastructure. Our systems process demand across 54 network departments, serving planning horizons from material procurement to power planning.
We own the demand management platform (used by hundreds of planners), the network forecast (the signal consumed by supply chain), an escalation system that proactively detects and routes procurement blockers, and a data platform that enables analytics across the network demand lifecycle. Our team is investing in platform modernization (migrating to event-driven architecture on modern AWS services), AI-powered operational tooling, and new capabilities that improve forecast quality and procurement efficiency. We are a collaborative team that values technical depth, data-driven decision making, and iterating quickly to solve real customer problems.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
