Job summary

The City of Fort Worth is seeking a Sr. Skilled Trade Technician in the Facilities Maintenance division of the Property Management Department.

You will lead in supervisory, installation, maintenance and repair across multiple trades. Key responsibilities include supervising craft personnel, coordinating projects, reviewing drawings and work orders, requisitioning parts, and ensuring logs are kept up to date.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in assigned trade.
  • Four (4) years of related skilled trades experience.
  • One (1) year of lead supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical, CJIS.

Responsibilities

  • Leads craft personnel and performs skilled work related to area of expertise, which may include work within one or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, electronics, carpentry (including cabinetry work, painting, mechanical, HVAC, concrete finishing, welding and/or roofing).
  • Conducts complex technical and skilled tasks related to assigned projects. Provides technical guidance to lower level skilled and maintenance workers. Assists in training lower level staff on proper techniques and procedures. Monitors and coordinates work of lower level staff.
  • Assists supervisory staff with scheduling planning projects and maintenance activities for assigned trades area. Recommends appropriate resources to use for projects and activities and identifies resource needs.
  • Reviews drawings, diagrams, specifications and work orders. Creates and updates drawings, diagrams and specifications. Maintains repair and maintenance logs for equipment and facilities. Records work orders when projects and maintenance activities are completed.
  • Requisitions parts, supplies and services. Contacts vendors to assess availability of supplies, parts and equipment.
  • Works with contractor to complete projects and assignments.
  • Identifies work to be completed for contractors. Identifies construction, maintenance and repair needs for facilities and equipment assigned. Performs identified work as appropriate. Reports needed maintenance and repair to appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations.

Sr. Skilled Trade Technician job is available with the City of Fort Worth Property Management Department -Facilities Maintenance. The Facilities Division provides City Departments with world class facility planning design, construction, renovation and maintenance services. The Division is seeking a Sr. Skilled Trade Technician to lead in supervisory, installation, maintenance and repair.


Minimum Qualifications


  • High School Diploma/GED supplemented by specialized training in assigned trade

  • Four (4) years of related skilled trades experience

  • One (1) year of lead supervisory experience

  • Valid driver's license

  • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical, CJIS


Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with automated work order system

  • Contractor's License preferred

  • Experience running and scheduling service calls

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Have the appropriate certifications related to field.

Working Conditions & Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.


Heavy Work- Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.


**Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.**
