Qualifications

Job Summary

The Senior Setup Technician tests, analyzes, and adjusts electro-mechanical devices such as timers, mechanical/solid state relays, solenoid valves, and electrically activated regulators.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Operations
  • Provide training to new employees in a bid to help them understand electro-mechanical work.
  • Works with the technical manager and process engineering manager to prioritize complex technical problems (electrical or mechanical); assembles a team and executes the directive.
  • Perform calibration activities to ensure compliance with set industry codes.
  • Modify and adjust complex process equipment and instruments.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems associated with electro-mechanical machinery by following OEM recommended procedures.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with complex control systems with OEM thermoforming machines.
  • Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment
  • Use of electrical meters in troubleshooting and analyzing machine problems.
  • Use of hand and power tools to fabricate machine parts necessary to maintain and update machinery.
  • Assembles wires, insulation, and electrical components, such as timing devices, relays, solenoids and regulators.
  • Installs electrical assemblies and hardware in housing.
  • Tests assembled equipment for circuit continuity and operational reliability.
  • Analyzes test results and repairs or adjusts equipment according to analysis.
  • Records test results and writes report on fabrication techniques used.
  • Assists setup mechanic and technicians in equipment repairs/setups and takes a lead role in preventive maintenance activities related to machine reliability.
  • Assists in training of Setup Mechanics/Technicians.
  • Understand and troubleshoot low and high voltage electrical circuits and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance on the production equipment as well as on the production support equipment.
  • Work with production automation equipment like robots, palletizers, case erectors, and high-speed jet printers.
  • Understand and troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controls) and Servo motors and drives.
  • Travel to Inline Plastics' facilities to assist with technical issues when needed, sometimes with minimal notice; also travel to vendors for qualification of new equipment.
  • Must maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Safety
  • Comply with the EHS Policy and applicable regulatory and company EHS rules and requirements.
  • Prompt reporting of any unsafe conditions, practices, or environmental concerns to supervision. Resolving potential hazards swiftly, thereby ensuring a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Attend scheduled EHS trainings.
  • Actively assist the organization in achieving or surpassing EHS goals. Identify areas for improvement in EHS practices and recommend enhancements to contribute to our commitment to a safe work environment.
  • Demonstrates safe work habits by adhering to general safety procedures, including correct techniques for lifting and bending, maintaining proper ergonomics, using equipment correctly, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ensures strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures.
Product Safety and Quality
  • Follows FDA GMP’s regarding food contact packaging as it pertains to the employee.
  • Practices good housekeeping including clutter-free work area and general cleaning.
  • Follows product safety standards, follows IPC product defense standards, and complies with all SQF requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED) and 5-8 years of thermoforming experience. Technical background including technical school or previous technician experience. A college degree in manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate on a one-on-one basis and in group situations. Ability to understand instructions and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to motivate and lead others.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Experience in Statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
  • Ability to use multimeters, power tools, drill press, table saw, and welder. Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air-operated machinery.
  • Mechanical and plumbing skills required.
  • Knowledge of thermoforming equipment required (Lyles, Sencorps, GNs, and OMG).
  • Must possess basic understanding of high voltage electrical theory.
  • Forklift driving experience is a plus.
  • Must be computer literate.
