Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics seeks a senior structural biologist to apply cryo-EM and X-ray methods to determine high-resolution structures of proteins and complexes essential for drug discovery. You will collaborate with medicinal chemistry and biologics teams to translate structural insight into hit validation and lead optimization.

The role requires leading multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, presenting results to project teams, and maintaining cryo-EM workflows and instrumentation.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Structural Biology or related field required.
  • Postdoctoral training in solving atomic resolution structures of macromolecular complexes.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in structural biology, biopharmaceutical industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography to determine high-resolution structures of proteins and complexes.
  • Conduct cryo-EM workflows including grid preparation, data collection, image processing, 3D reconstruction, and model building.

  • Contribute to the operation, optimization, and maintenance of cryo-EM instrumentation and workflows.
  • Present results clearly to internal project teams and contribute to publications and reports.
  • Independently manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and deliver impactful results.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography to determine high-resolution structures of proteins and macromolecular complexes relevant to drug discovery
  • Conduct cryo-EM workflows including grid preparation, data collection, image processing, 3D reconstruction, and model building
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate structural insights into medicinal chemistry and biologics design efforts, including hit validation and hit-to-lead optimization
  • Contribute to the operation, optimization, and maintenance of cryo-EM instrumentation and workflows
  • Present results clearly to internal project teams and contribute to scientific publications and reports
  • Independently manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and deliver impactful results
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in Structural Biology or related field, with postdoctoral training in solving atomic resolution structures of macromolecular complexes
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in structural biology, preferably including biopharmaceutical industry experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in single-particle cryo-EM (grid preparation, optimization, data acquisition, processing, 3D reconstruction, model building)
  • Hands-on experience with recombinant protein construct design, expression, purification, and characterization
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills in a matrixed team environment
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects independently
Compensation/Benefits
  • Salary range: $169,320.00 - $219,120.00; may be eligible for discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package (medical, dental, vision, and life insurance)
