Job summary

Haleon is seeking a Senior Scientist in the R&D Product Chemistry Group, based in Richmond, VA, reporting to the group Director. The role focuses on gaining insight into how product chemistry links to product performance and supports early-stage development and regulatory/submission activities.

You will work with formulation teams, develop analytical strategies, and mentor junior scientists while collaborating across R&D, QA, and regulatory teams. A hands-on, collaborative scientist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize structure and interactions of formulation ingredients using MS, NMR, IR.
  • Design sample prep to isolate analyte from multi-component dosage forms (viscous liquids, gels, creams, solids).
  • Perform trace analysis using MS with chromatography and other hyphenated techniques.
  • Maintain MS instruments to ensure consistent performance.
  • Design characterization strategies to support regulatory submissions and patents.

Job description

About the role

This role reports into the Site and Capability team. In this role you will serve as a Senior Scientist in the R&D Product Chemistry Group reporting to the group Director. The purpose of this R&D global support group is to gain insight on how our product chemistry links to product performance . Here we support our formulation teams in early - stage product development with an eye toward exploiting the chemistry/performance link toward product claims and performance visualizations. Additionally , this product chemistry understanding is used to assist our regulatory and legal partners speak to the safety and efficacy of our product .

Role Responsibilities
  • Utilize mass spectrometry and allied techniques (i.e. NMR, IR spectroscopy) to characterize structure and ascertain interactions of formulation ingredients
  • Design sample preparation strategies to isolate analyte of interest from multi-component dosage forms including viscous liquids , gels, ointments, creams and solids
  • Perform trace analysis using mass spectrometry with various combinations of chromatography and other hyphenated techniques
  • Perform routine maintenance on mass spectrometry instruments to ensure consistent performance
  • Design and execute characterization strategies to support regulatory submissions, patent applications and claims substantiation
  • Engage in problem solving activities by interpreting data sets from multiple characterization approaches
  • Justify the meaning of experiment al data as it applies to product development milestone achievement

  • Business Awareness - Understand the basic utility of allied functions in R&D, Quality and Commercial so as to actively bring our science forward when opportunities present

Location:

This role is based in Richmond, VA with in-office requirements.
