Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Hardware Development Engineer within the Velocity team to design, develop, and deliver mechanical components and systems for Amazon's next generation of products. You will transform concepts into manufacturable designs that meet customer needs and business requirements.

You will work with cross‑functional teams to ensure designs meet cost, manufacturing constraints, and reliability, while mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement in design processes.

Qualifications

• Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience with prototyping, implementation and scaling.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints.
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies.
• Conduct analyses including tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, and FEA.
• Develop and execute test plans to validate designs against requirements.
• Collaborate with designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with subsystems.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during development and production.
• Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes.
• Support DFM and DFA activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement of design processes.

• Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints
• Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies
• Conduct engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs against product requirements
• Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems.
• Identify and resolve technical issues during development and production phases
• Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes
• Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes

Basic Qualifications

• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
• 8+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
• Experience with prototyping, implementation and scaling

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
• Experience with the project management of technical projects
• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
