Job summary

Amazon in Massachusetts seeks a Hardware Development Engineer for the Velocity team to design and deliver mechanical components and systems for next-generation products. You will transform concepts into manufacturable designs meeting customer needs and business requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Proven experience developing functional specs, verification plans and test procedures.
  • 8+ years in mechanical engineering or equivalent; prototyping and scaling experience.
  • SolidWorks or Ansys experience for simulation and analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production with cost targets and manufacturability in mind.
  • Create 3D CAD models, drawings, and specifications for components and assemblies.
  • Perform tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, and FEA analyses on designs.
  • Develop and execute tests to validate designs against requirements.
  • Collaborate with industrial design, electrical engineering, and manufacturing to integrate systems.
  • Identify and resolve issues during development and production phases.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and changes.
  • Support DFM and DFA activities.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements.

Job description

As a Hardware Development Engineer within the Velocity team, you will design, develop, and deliver mechanical components and systems for Amazon's next generation of products. You will work with cross-functional teams to transform concepts into manufacturable designs that meet customer needs and business requirements.

Key job responsibilities
  • Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints
  • Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies
  • Conduct engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs against product requirements
  • Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during development and production phases
  • Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • 8+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with prototyping, implementation and scaling
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSU). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
