Purpose:

Under the general direction of a physician and by prescription, provides respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in respiratory care as defined by the business unit. Performs all duties of a Respiratory Therapist, RRT, across all patient populations and service areas.

Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in high-risk modalities specific to the business entity.
2. Administers therapies such as Nitric Oxide (NO) and Tracheal Gas Insufflation (TGI).
3. Performs advanced functions in non-traditional settings: OR, ED, Cath Lab, Lung Center, Recovery, Transport, etc.
4. Performs bronchoscopy, ABG troubleshooting, pulmonary function tests, breath alcohol testing, EEG, EKG, Stress Testing, and 24-hour monitoring as needed.
5. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy, including vital signs and blood gases.
6. Performs bronchopulmonary drainage and assists with breathing exercises.
7. Conducts pulmonary function tests for diagnostic purposes, consults with physicians regarding adverse reactions, maintains patient charts, and orders repairs when needed.
8. Supervises trainees and students during procedures and training.
9. Assists in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and responds to code situations.
10. Evaluates medical orders for appropriateness.
11. Interprets clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.
12. Performs duties as a Respiratory Therapist, including assessing patient condition, selecting treatment methods, operating respiratory equipment, and ensuring safety and efficacy of therapy.
13. Functions as a Lead Respiratory Therapist or senior resource as needed, providing training and problem-solving support to staff.
