Position Summary

Labcorp is a leading diagnostic reference laboratory dedicated to delivering high-quality, clinically actionable results through innovative molecular technologies. The R&D team plays a critical role in developing and validating molecular assays that directly impact patient care.

As a Senior Research Associate, you will support all R&D functions related to launching molecular tests into a clinical laboratory, from development and validation to implementation and troubleshooting. This bench-focused position requires a strong foundation in molecular biology and deep familiarity with NGS technologies. It also involves collaborating with other groups within Labcorp to apply translational research in a clinical diagnostics setting.

Candidates Given The Best Consideration Will Have The Following
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on molecular biology experience, with at least 3 years in a clinical diagnostics, biotech, or research lab setting
  • Firm understanding of molecular biology and genetics concepts
  • Expertise in NGS technologies and workflows, including library prep and target enrichment
  • Hands-on experience with nucleic acid extraction, quantification, PCR, qPCR, and Sanger sequencing
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with web tools and databases for assay design and data analysis
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office; proficiency in statistical analysis is a plus
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment under tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of clinical molecular assay validation requirements
  • Experience with automation platforms and high-throughput workflows
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for NGS data review and quality control
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related field (Master’s preferred)
Key Responsibilities
  • Support design, optimization, and execution of molecular workflows, focusing on NGS assay development
  • Contribute to analytical validation of NGS assays, including reproducibility, sensitivity, and specificity studies
  • Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory submissions, validation plans, and SOPs
  • Support technology transfer from R&D to clinical labs through training and collaboration
  • Analyze data, troubleshoot technical issues, and collaborate with bioinformatics and clinical staff
  • Present results within and outside R&D
  • Evaluate commercial products for clinical lab applicability
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals
  • Stay updated with current literature relevant to the project
  • Maintain lab equipment, order supplies, and support routine activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned, fostering a collaborative lab culture

Pay Range: $75k - $85k (USD)

Offers depend on skills, experience, degrees, and market data.

Benefits: Employees working 20+ hours/week are eligible for comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, STD/LTD, 401(k), PTO/FTO, tuition reimbursement, and stock purchase plans. Part-time employees under 20 hours can participate in the 401(k) plan only.
