Job Description

The Sr Research Associate, Purification Process Development (Pivotal and Commercial) will be responsible for executing laboratory experimentation related to purification process development for biologics entities during pivotal and commercial development phases.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plan and execute assigned experiments that support Process Development activities and project goals.
2. Select appropriate methods and techniques for performing experiments.
3. Develop skills in data analysis and interpreting experiment outcomes including the ability to evaluate data quality and recognize anomalous results.
4. Recommend alternatives, research new methods and techniques and proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems.
5. Participate in group meetings and present results, data interpretation and conclusions.
6. Demonstrate strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to explain processes used to achieve results of assigned tasks.
7. Work with team oriented, collaborative and problem-solving mindset.
8. Always work with safety in mind.
9. Maintain a state-of-the-art purification lab.
10. Ensure high-quality documentation in electronic laboratory notebooks and reports.
11. Participate in cross functional initiatives as needed.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

1. BS with 2+ years’ experience or M.S. in a relevant scientific discipline (chemical engineering, biochemistry, bioengineering).

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Working understanding of downstream process development including centrifugation, normal and tangential flow filtration, high throughput purification screening and development, chromatography operations, and virus clearance.
2. Prior experience in biologics purification, with an emphasis on affinity, IEX, and HIC.
3. Experience with AKTA chromatography systems and UNICORN software is a plus.
4. Working knowledge of lab automation, data management, data science, knowledge management and data protection.
5. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally.
6. Experience in statistics, design-of-experiments, and data analysis (e.g. JMP, Spotfire).
7. Motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Excellent verbal communication, oral presentation, and scientific writing skills.

The salary range for this position is: $94,945.00 - $122,870.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
