Job summary

Baxter Healthcare in Guayama, PR seeks a Sr. Reliability Engineer – Mechanical Integrity to lead the site's Mechanical Integrity Program and ensure asset reliability in a highly regulated manufacturing setting.

You will collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, EHS, Quality and Corporate partners to drive regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement using RCA, FMEA and RCM on critical equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 8+ years in pharmaceutical/chemical/highly regulated manufacturing.
  • 5+ years in reliability engineering and maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with Mechanical Integrity programs and asset reliability.
  • Experience in maintenance, equipment design, project engineering, and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical Integrity, Reliability Engineering, and Asset Management.
  • Experience with: RCM, FMEA, RCA, Predictive/Preventive Maintenance, PSM, RMP.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessels, piping, rotating equipment, and industrial process systems.
  • CAD systems and engineering software tools familiarity.
  • Ability to influence across functions and leadership levels.
  • Proven ability to lead improvements and manage complex technical challenges.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve the site's Mechanical Integrity Program.
  • Develop and implement reliability strategies supporting plant performance.
  • Align Mechanical Integrity activities with production schedules and priorities.
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks affecting safety, compliance, or operations.
  • Conduct equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Lead Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) initiatives and risk-based maintenance.
  • Utilize FMEA, condition monitoring, predictive and preventive maintenance to improve asset performance.
  • Analyze maintenance data, downtime trends, and equipment performance for improvements.
  • Support reliability improvements for critical manufacturing and utility systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, PSM, RMP and pressure vessel regs.
  • Support inspections, audits, and regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain technical documentation and compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource during audits.
  • Support MRO inventory for Mechanical Integrity activities.
  • Develop and optimize maintenance job plans and reliability strategies.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to improve asset availability.
  • Support capital project planning and budgeting.

As the Sr. Reliability Engineer – Mechanical Integrity, you will be a key member of the Engineering and Reliability organization supporting the Anesthesia Manufacturing Site.
You will collaborate closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, EHS, Quality, and Corporate partners to drive equipment reliability, asset integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. In this role, you will lead the site's Mechanical Integrity Program, ensuring critical assets operate safely, efficiently, and reliably while supporting Baxter's commitment to quality and patient safety.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and continuously improve the site's Mechanical Integrity Program.
  • Develop and implement reliability strategies that support plant performance and business objectives.
  • Ensure Mechanical Integrity activities are executed in alignment with production schedules and operational priorities.
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks that could impact safety, compliance, production, or business operations.
  • Conduct equipment failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Lead Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) initiatives and risk-based maintenance strategies.
  • Utilize tools such as FMEA, condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and preventive maintenance programs to improve asset performance.
  • Analyze maintenance data, downtime trends, and equipment performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support reliability improvements for critical manufacturing and utility systems.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, Mechanical Integrity, PSM, RMP, and applicable pressure vessel regulations.
  • Support inspections, audits, and regulatory assessments.
  • Maintain technical documentation and ensure program compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Serve as a technical resource during internal and external audits.
  • Support inventory management of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials required for Mechanical Integrity activities.
  • Develop and optimize maintenance job plans and reliability strategies.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering teams to improve equipment availability and reliability.
  • Support maintenance and capital project planning activities.
  • Contribute to maintenance and capital budget development, forecasting, and cost tracking.
  • Identify and implement maintenance cost reduction opportunities.
  • Support site Reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the site on corporate teams, projects, and strategic initiatives.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience within a pharmaceutical, chemical, or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in reliability engineering and maintenance.
  • Hands‑on experience supporting Mechanical Integrity programs and asset reliability initiatives.
  • Experience in maintenance, equipment design, project engineering, and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical Integrity, Reliability Engineering, and Asset Management principles.
  • Experience with:
    • Reliability‑Centered Maintenance (RCM)
    • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Predictive and Preventive Maintenance Programs
