Primary Purpose

A Registered Nurse (RN) with >2 years of ICU nursing experience. The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery, focusing on a particular patient population(s) or specific health conditions, by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in transitioning through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee.

Minimum Specifications
  • Education: Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Experience: Must have 2+ years of ICU nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Certification / Registration / Licensure:
    • Must have current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.
    • Must have current ALS or ACLS certification upon hire.
    • Must have current BLS certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

  • Provides care for assigned patient population in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and standards.
  • Must be able to perform continuous assessment, consult with team members, and provide patient-centered care.
  • Exercise independent judgment in nursing care.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
  • May need to communicate via overhead paging system.
  • Ability to provide direction, serve as preceptor, and participate as a Charge Nurse on rotation.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct educational programs.
  • Demonstrate patient-centered behaviors.
  • Knowledge of nursing standards for the specialty care area.
