Job summary

Barton Malow is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join our Detroit-area team. This hands-on, high-impact role leads quality programs across self-perform work, subcontractors, and vendors, mentoring teams and setting the standard for field quality from inspection to commissioning.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of QA/QC in construction, strong inspection/testing knowledge, and the ability to work with multiple trades.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in construction QA/QC inspection, with lead role on complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of inspection and testing techniques in construction.
• Able to work independently and lead quality programs with limited oversight.
• Willingness to travel for extended regional assignments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication across trades, subcontractors, vendors, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain an effective quality control program aligned with the Barton Malow Quality Manual and project documents.
• Review and approve subcontractor quality programs, inspection/test procedures, and qualification records.
• Ensure testing and inspections occur on schedule; establish witness/hold points as needed.
• Identify and manage nonconformances, including stop-work, corrective actions, and disposition verification.
• Coordinate qualified testing labs and third-party inspection agencies; ensure compliance.
• Submit monthly quality reports with measurable results and trends; maintain quality documentation.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager on all quality-related issues and decisions.
• Mentor project teams and junior staff; build quality capability across the project.
• Lead commissioning and startup activities for equipment and systems.

Barton Malow is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join our team supporting projects in the Detroit area. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role for someone who takes genuine pride in getting it right, from the first inspection to final commissioning. As the senior quality lead on assigned projects, you'll implement and maintain Barton Malow's quality program across self‑perform work, subcontractor scopes, and vendor performance, while mentoring project teams and setting the standard for quality in the field.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and maintain an effective quality control program in alignment with the Barton Malow Quality Manual, applicable codes, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Review and approve subcontractor quality programs, inspection and test procedures, and personnel qualification records.
• Ensure all required testing and inspections are performed on schedule and to standard, establishing Witness and Hold points as appropriate to scope and risk.
• Identify and control nonconformance items, including stop work orders, corrective action planning, and disposition approval and verification.
• Initiate corrective action for deviations in corporate document and process compliance.
• Coordinate qualified testing laboratories and third‑party inspection agencies to assure compliance.
• Submit monthly quality reports identifying measurable results and trends, and maintain all project quality documentation, including inspection logs, test reports, receiving and off‑site vendor inspections, corrective actions, and key performance indicators.
• Partner with the Project Manager on all quality‑related issues and decisions.
• Mentor and develop project team members and junior quality staff, building quality capability across the project.
• Lead an active role in the commissioning and startup process for equipment and systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 6+ years of construction QA/QC inspection experience, including a lead role on complex projects.
• Strong working knowledge of construction inspection and testing techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead quality programs with minimal oversight.
• Willingness to travel for extended assignments within the region.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, you'll be coordinating across trades, subcontractors, vendors, and project leadership.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• OSHA 30‑Hour certification.
