Job description

Description

Flynn Wright is seeking a communications professional and seasoned writer who can turn client priorities, subject matter expertise and strategic direction into compelling content. As a Senior Public Relations & Content Strategist, you’ll develop content that strengthens credibility, builds visibility and supports business objectives for consumer and business-to-business clients.

As part of the PR team, you’ll work closely with agency colleagues to translate briefs, interviews, keyword outlines, research and client insights into clear, purposeful writing across owned and earned channels. Strong writing and editorial judgment are central to this role, along with an understanding of how content supports discovery through traditional search and AI-generated answers.

You’ll help lead and shape communications strategy and content direction for PR accounts, working with internal teams and clients to identify opportunities, recommend approaches and align execution with business priorities. You’ll also mentor early-career professionals, providing guidance and constructive feedback that strengthen their writing, strategic thinking and communications judgment.

About You

You’re a thoughtful, versatile communications professional and writer who asks good questions, identifies the strongest angle and makes complex topics accessible. You can move comfortably from website copy and newsletter articles to testimonials, executive messaging and thought leadership, adapting your voice and approach to the audience, channel and objective.

You understand the strategy behind "the ask" and can develop content with purpose. You know when to seek more context, how to incorporate feedback and how to deliver polished work. You’re collaborative, curious and organized, with the judgment to manage multiple assignments and deadlines independently.

About Us

We’re a full-service agency with offices in Des Moines, Sioux Falls, and Portland. At the heart of our success has always been human creativity. The role of brilliant individuals, and their original ideas, remains just as relevant today as when we opened our doors 40 years ago. That’s why we continue to take care of our own like we take care of our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Write and edit strategic content, including website and digital copy, newsletter articles, social media, blogs, testimonials, case studies, thought leadership articles, bylines, press releases and executive communications.
  • Translate direction, source materials and insights from PR leads into content that reflects client priorities, audience needs, brand voice and business objectives.
  • Develop content for trade media partnerships, including contributed articles, podcast scripts, webinar scripts, discussion guides and supporting promotional copy.
  • Identify compelling story angles and develop clear messaging that makes complex, technical or specialized topics relevant and accessible.
  • Apply search engine optimization (SEO) and generative engine optimization (GEO) practices with direction and guidance from agency colleagues, creating accurate, useful content that answers audience questions and supports discoverability in search and AI-generated answers.
  • Collaborate with PR, account service, creative, digital, research and paid media colleagues to align content with integrated communications and marketing efforts.
  • Research topics, verify claims and identify information gaps; partner with PR leads and subject matter experts to develop credible, substantive content.
  • Manage writing assignments from brief through revisions and final delivery, incorporating feedback and coordinating required reviews and approvals.
  • Participate in client and/or subject matter expert conversations, with the level of client involvement varying by account.
Qualifications
  • 5-8 years of strategic content development, public relations, journalism or related communications experience; agency experience preferred.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills across long-form and short-form content, demonstrated through a portfolio of relevant work.
  • Ability to translate complex or technical subject matter into clear, compelling content for different audiences and channels.
  • Understanding of how content supports public relations, earned media, brand credibility and broader marketing objectives.
  • Working knowledge of SEO and GEO content principles, with the ability to apply guidance from agency specialists and adapt as search behavior evolves.
  • Strong research skills, attention to accuracy and familiarity with AP style.
  • Experience writing thought leadership, executive content or materials for trade media partnerships; experience in regulated, corporate or B2B industries is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, sound editorial judgment and the ability to manage multiple priorities, incorporate feedback and meet deadlines.
Perks + Benefits
  • Office in the heart of downtown - steps away from art, culture and some of the city’s best spots for coffee, lunch and happy hour.
  • Free downtown parking.
  • Comprehensive plans for group health, dental, vision and life insurance.
  • 401k with company match.
  • Plenty of Personal Time Off (PTO), plus paid holidays.
  • Potential for bonuses based on success of agency.
  • Even more money for Employee Referral Program.
