CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE

Michael Baker International's civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. Our fields of expertise span all areas of civil engineering and include an extensive variety of specialty disciplines, such as environmental compliance and restoration, coastal engineering, urban development, and mining.

DESCRIPTION

Michael Baker is seeking a Full Time Senior Environmental Project Manager specializing in environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This position involves the preparation of environmental documentation for various types of projects, but with a strong focus on water/wastewater infrastructure. Ideal candidates should have experience managing both local- and regional-serving water/wastewater projects along with expertise with the key issues associated with these projects (master plans, linear distribution facilities, pump/booster stations, treatment, groundwater, CEQA-Plus, etc.). Existing relationships with local and regional utility providers within southern California is highly desired.

The Senior Environmental Project Manager will manage all aspects of environmental review including the preparation of environmental notices, CEQA documents, NEPA documents, and team coordination. The position will require interaction and interface with local, regional, and regulatory agency staff to process environmental deliverables. They will provide all aspects of project management such as client communications, progress reports, cost tracking, staff mentorship, and quality control. The position will include an emphasis on client engagement, marketing, proposal preparation, client interviews, and business development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The management and preparation of Initial Studies, EIRs, joint documents, and other CEQA/NEPA documents
  • Business development, client engagement, proposal preparation, project interviews, and other marketing activities
  • Team coordination, staff oversight/mentorship, and working both with our local professionals and the other offices of Michael Baker International

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Planning, Ecology or a related field is required.
  • 10 or more years of experience is preferred.
  • Proven experience with project management and client relations
  • A focus on business development with an ability to procure new and repeat clients
  • Able to build relationships with a wide variety of people is required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams is required
  • A desire to produce first-class work and the ability to quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software while acquiring an understanding of the company's service offerings, and the standards relevant to your projects is required.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work both remotely and in-person at Michael Baker's Santa Ana office
  • Candidate must have the ability to travel (primarily locally) for fieldwork, client meetings, staffing support, community outreach/stakeholder meetings, and public hearings.

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position $119,662.40 - $207,313.60 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
