Job summary

LJA Rail, a division of LJA Engineering, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead design, implementation, and management of railroad signal projects. You will provide technical leadership, oversee client relations, and mentor engineers to ensure high-quality, compliant outcomes.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in railroad signal engineering, 7+ years in project leadership, and PE licensure. The role requires collaboration across civil, electrical, and construction teams to deliver complex

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Sr. Project Manager at LJA Rail, is responsible for leading the planning, design, implementation, and management of railroad signal and train control projects. This role provides technical leadership, project oversight, client management, and mentoring of engineering staff while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company objectives.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:

  • Design development for freight railroad projects
  • Develop engineering plans, specifications, estimates, and technical reports.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable regulations, including standards established by the Federal Railroad Administration, American Railway Engineering
  • Maintenance-of-Way Association, and railroad owner requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise for signal system upgrades, new installations, and maintenance programs.
  • Review engineering deliverables for quality, accuracy, and constructability.
  • Manage multiple signal engineering projects from concept through construction and closeout.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, electrical, communications, and construction personnel.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to clients and leadership.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of railroad signal engineering experience.
  • 7+ years of project management and team leadership experience.
  • Experience with Class I railroads, short-line railroads, transit agencies, and/or industrial rail facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex signal design and implementation projects.
