Job summary

WSB, a design and consulting firm, seeks a Senior Project Manager in Austin, Texas, to lead multi-disciplinary municipal projects from proposal through closeout. You will coordinate client meetings, hearings, and public involvement events to advance projects on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, a PE license or ability to obtain, and 8+ years’ municipal experience, with preference for knowledge of City of Austin requirements and central Texas project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or ability to obtain within six months is required.
• 8+ years municipal experience, direct experience with a municipality preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of multi-discipline projects from proposal to closeout.
• Plan and coordinate client meetings, hearings, and public involvement events to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
• Lead a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff across multiple locations.
• Deliver CIP programs/projects with municipal client staff, potentially on-site.
• Establish and maintain relationships with municipal clients and ensure project requirements are met.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with municipal codes and environmental standards, with Austin-related experience a plus.
• Develop budgets, allocate resources, and monitor expenditures to control costs.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies throughout project execution.
• Oversee contract negotiations and monitor contractor performance.
• Prepare project/client correspondence and documentation.
• Lead business development with new and existing clients.

What You Will Do

• Manage all aspects of multi-discipline projects and clients from the proposal process to project closeout
• Plan, direct, and coordinate activities including client meetings, public hearings, and public involvement events so that projects move forward within the prescribed time frames and budgets
• Anticipate client needs, biases, and preferences and tailor communication and work output accordingly
• Team Leadership: Leading a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff, assigning tasks, providing guidance, and monitoring project progress in multiple locations
• Work directly with municipal client staff to deliver CIP programs and or projects, potentially on-site in a staff augmentation setting
• Client Relations: Establishing and maintaining relationships with municipal clients, understanding their needs, and ensuring project requirements are met
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring projects comply with relevant municipal codes, regulations, and environmental standards. Experience with City of Austin requirements is a plus
• Budgeting and Resource Management: Developing project budgets, allocating resources effectively, and monitoring expenditures to ensure cost control
• Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identifying potential risks and challenges, developing risk mitigation strategies, and resolving issues that may arise during project execution.
• Contract Management: Overseeing contract negotiations, reviewing contractor performance, and ensuring compliance with contractual agreements
• Prepare or coordinate preparation of project / client correspondence and documentation
• Participate in and lead business development activities to new and existing clients through the following activities: plans, leads and participates in client meetings and networking events
• Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvements, implementing best practices, and promoting innovation within the municipal engineering department
• Understanding of alternative funding sources for municipal projects, and ability to secure funding

What You Will Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school
• Registration as a professional engineer (or the ability to obtain registration within six months)
• 8+ years municipal experience; direct experience working for a municipality
• Experience working with the City of Austin is preferred
• Our preferred candidate would have experience in managing a variety of multi-disciplinary projects, clients, and staff in central Texas
• A history in delivering projects with positive customer service experiences
• The ability and desire to develop an understanding of, or even anticipate the client’s needs
