Overview

Sr. Project Engineer – Par Pacific Holdings, Inc.

Location: Tacoma, WA

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing a variety of capital and maintenance projects and supporting the day-to-day operation of the refinery.
  • Develop, maintain, and apply subject matter expertise to manage programs, cost estimates, and budgets for pressure vessels, exchangers, piping, PRD's, valves, tanks, FFS analysis, cathodic protection, process chemistry, corrosion and materials.
  • Developing economic justifications for refinery improvements; make recommendations for modifications to improve refinery operations; identify and develop refinery improvement projects.
  • Perform and/or manage all phases of engineering projects from conceptual studies, process design, cost estimating, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, through startup.
  • Direct in-house and contract engineering resources to execute projects efficiently; administer and/or manage assigned refinery engineering/inspection programs.
  • Provide project support for fixed equipment included in capital and expense projects; provide technical support for rotating equipment, fixed equipment, metallurgy selection, FFS analysis and damage mechanisms applicable to refinery operating units.
  • Develop/maintain project cost estimation and budgeting efforts; provide input into rotating equipment reliability strategies; support Root Cause Failure Analysis investigations.
  • Stay involved with industry organizations to stay abreast of new technology and trends related to fixed equipment.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in refining, chemical, or heavy industrial environments preferred.
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Civil, Reliability, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering preferred.
  • Significant project execution experience including scope development, cost estimation, equipment design and procurement, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Knowledge/experience in pumps, compressors, pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, fired process equipment, pressure relief devices, valves and related reliability factors.
  • Experience applying ASME/API/NBIC codes in design, evaluation, and repair/alteration of equipment.
  • Knowledge of refinery damage mechanisms; API 571 knowledge preferred; ASME B31.3 and Section VIII Div. 1 preferred.
  • Experience performing Root Cause Failure Analysis; knowledge/experience with Risk Based Inspection preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization; willingness for some overtime, including weekends/holidays during turnarounds and outages; valid Driver’s License required.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without visa sponsorship; eligibility for TWIC card ( Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
