This is a full time, benefits eligible, fixed-term opportunity. Current funding will expire on June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension. Application window will close May 11, 2025.

The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) is a science-to-action initiative co-managed by the American Heart Association that is offering standardized multi-omics tools, data, and training to characterize food quality of the world’s edible biodiversity. Our global ecosystem is mapping food quality based on multiple components, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and specialized metabolites (or bioactives), as well as their variation across food systems. PTFI’s vision is a world where stakeholders in food, agriculture and health are enabled to lead data-driven solutions that provide healthy food from sustainable food systems. Food EDU was seeded by the PTFI as an open-access educational platform designed to facilitate the translation and application of cutting-edge research in food, agriculture, nutrition, and health. Responsibilities

The Research and Translation Manager will play a critical role in advancing research, training, and translation for The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI), Food EDU, and Good Food Fellows. This role requires a strong interdisciplinary scientific background spanning human and planetary health, paired with excellent communication skills to support research strategy, data integration, curriculum development, stakeholder engagement, and translation of scientific evidence into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in food composition, dietary analysis, food systems, and health data science, with a focus on cardiometabolic health. This role supports adoption and application of PTFI and Food EDU tools, data, and trainings across a global network of partners and stakeholders.

  • Research Strategy and Integration :

  • Co-lead PTFI’s research strategy to apply standardized multi-omics tools (from farm to blood) and integrate data across projects to uncover the molecular mechanisms by which food influences health.

  • Oversee high-level tracking of PTFI global research project deliverables to ensure delivery of milestones and implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

  • Provide guidance to Principal Investigators and teams of PTFI research projects on research questions, experimental design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.

  • Translation of Evidence : Develop and implement strategies to translate PTFI data into actionable insights for global stakeholders, including policymakers, practitioners, and researchers.

  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the Food EDU team to develop educational and training content, including e-learning modules, scientific trainings, and Standard Operating Protocols (SOPs) for onboarding PTFI’s multi-omics tools.

  • Scientific Communication : Co-create scientific reports, presentations, and documentation to share progress, findings, and best practices across the PTFI ecosystem. Serve as an ambassador for PTFI and Food EDU globally and via engagement with communities of practice.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a primary point of contact for the PTFI global ecosystem with regards to research and translation.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a relevant scientific field is preferred (e.g., Nutrition, Epidemiology, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Public Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline) ideally with laboratory and community experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in participating in interdisciplinary and multi-institutional projects. Global experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of food composition and dietary analysis, food systems research, climate and health data science, and cardiometabolic health.

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills along with educational expertise and an ability to translate technical concepts for audiences.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional teams in a global environment.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected pay range will be $100,000 to $115,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
