Job summary

The City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department is seeking a Sr. Professional Engineer for the Neighborhood Streets team. This role designs and delivers public works projects, manages contracts, reviews plans, and ensures projects meet budget and schedule targets.

Requirements include a civil engineering degree, Texas PE license or eligibility, and 3 years of professional experience with 2 years in design/construction. Hybrid schedule in Weatherford, TX preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
• TexasPE license or ability to obtain Texas license within 6 months of employment.
• At least 3 years of professional civil engineering experience as a licensed professional engineer; 2 years in design/construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple roadway improvement projects with strict budget and schedule.
• Attend meetings with City leadership and stakeholders.
• Support Engineering Manager; help develop policies and procedures.
• Manage consulting contracts for design and construction; review plans, cost estimates and amendments.
• Oversee construction contracts: bids, RFIs, field visits and change orders.

A Sr. Professional Engineer position is available with the City of Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department on the Capital Delivery Neighborhood Streets Team. The Sr. Professional Engineer will perform engineering duties related to the design and construction of public works projects including project planning, executing design and construction contracts, reviewing construction plans and specifications, preparing and reviewing cost estimates and project schedules, conducting site visits, advertising and bidding projects, monitoring projects through the construction phase, and completing and closing out projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field.
• Three (3) years of professional civil engineering experience as a Licensed Professional Engineer, two (2) years must relate to civil engineering design and construction projects and/or infrastructure design/review of public capital improvement projects
• Possession of registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. If licensed in another state, continued employment will be contingent upon obtaining registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within six months of employment.
• Valid Texas Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exceptional customer service, time management, communication, and writing skills
• Experience with the requirements of federally funded projects
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• Experience with Bluebeam, understanding of the PMBOK, an industry-recognized project management standard, MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and geographic information systems (GIS)

The Sr. Professional Engineer – Neighborhood Streets job responsibilities include:

• Working independently to perform project management and professional civil engineering work to deliver multiple simultaneous roadway improvement projects while coordinating with a variety of stakeholders to deliver projects within budget and on schedule within very tight time constraints
• Attending virtual and in-person meetings and communicating proactively about projects with City leadership, stakeholders in other City departments, residents of the City of Fort Worth and representatives of state and federal agencies
• Providing direct support to the Engineering Manager and assisting in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, goals and objectives and making recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standard and procedures
• Managing professional services contracts with engineering consultants to deliver capital projects including executing design contracts, reviewing engineering design plans, specifications and cost estimates and processing contract amendments
• Managing construction contracts including evaluating construction bids, executing construction contracts, responding to RFIs, performing field visits and processing change orders
• Reviewing and approving payment requests and performing other tasks as needed while utilizing City of Fort Worth software/systems and processes
• Supervising and assisting in the development and professional growth of graduate engineers and professional engineers

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing.

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
