Job summary

Lubrizol’s Senior Production Engineer is a technical resource for Operations, focusing on unit effectiveness, optimization, and problem solving to enable safe and efficient production of low-cost, quality products. This role provides technical support to work teams, drives SPC, uses FMEA and root-cause analysis, and collaborates with experts to improve OEE, materials variability, and process safety.

You’ll lead day-to-day decisions, mentor operators, and champion change management to sustain

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering; Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 4+ years of operations experience in a chemical facility.
  • Experience with technology and process safety in a chemical facility.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement: Six Sigma and Lean; certifications preferred.
  • Understanding of business fundamentals to improve unit financial performance.

Responsibilities

  • Understand all applicable processes, equipment and control technologies.
  • Work with technical experts and plant personnel to optimize operations to meet business and plant goals and all KPIs.
  • Implement best practices to optimize operations and ensure technologies are effectively utilized.
  • Participate in advanced troubleshooting and coach others; document findings in plant operating discipline.
  • Apply SPC to maximize asset utilization and produce low-cost, quality products.
  • Initiate changes to operating procedures with technical experts and technicians to keep them valid.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on-site and worldwide to leverage knowledge about plant operations.
  • Communicate technical information to plant personnel and centers.
  • Provide high-level leadership in day-to-day decision making for the operating area.
  • Implement process improvements to reduce variation, increase capacity and improve yield.
  • Monitor and improve raw material variability.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis, FMEA, and similar activities.
  • Act as the plant Asset Utilization focal point; drive rate changes and optimize profiles to meet production goals while increasing OEE.
  • Provide technical support for projects.
  • Respond to plant upsets when needed.
  • Adhere to change management processes.

The role provides technical support to work teams with daily operations and process performance, maximizing value to the business in a safe, environmentally friendly manner.

  • Understand all applicable processes, equipment and control technologies.
  • Work with technical experts and plant personnel to optimize operations to meet business and plant goals and all KPIs.
  • Implement best practices to optimize operations and ensure technologies are effectively utilized.
  • Participate in advanced troubleshooting and coach others; document findings in plant operating discipline.
  • Apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) to maximize plant asset utilization and produce low‑cost, quality products.
  • Initiate changes to plant operating procedures with technical experts and technicians to keep them valid and up‑to‑date.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on‑site and worldwide to leverage knowledge about plant operations.
  • Communicate technical information and issues to plant personnel, technology centers, or expertise centers.
  • Provide high‑level leadership and direction in day‑to‑day decision making for the operating area of responsibility.
  • Implement process improvements supporting reduction of variation, capacity, and yield improvement.
  • Monitor and improve raw material variability.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis, FMEA, and similar activities as required.
  • Act as the plant Asset Utilization focal point; drive rate changes and optimize profiles to meet production goals while increasing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Maintain the asset utilization database by entering production data.
  • Provide technical support for projects.
  • Respond to plant upsets when needed.
  • Adhere strongly to the management of change process to ensure reviews are completed thoroughly, risks are adequately assessed, and personnel are properly trained before implementing changes.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success

  • Experience with technology and process safety in a chemical facility.
