Job summary

OXO International Inc. in New York, NY is seeking a Sr. Product Engineer (Kitchen Electrics) to lead design and development across OXO brand products, from concept to production.

In a hybrid work model, you’ll critique designs, build prototypes, collaborate with internal and external teams, and ensure cost-effective manufacturing. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of mechanical/electro-mechanical engineering experience and solid CAD skills in SolidWorks or Creo.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical or Electro-mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in plastics, injection molding, sheet metal, and die casting.
  • SolidWorks or Creo proficiency.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and schematics.
  • Ability to write basic code for microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically/internationally.
  • Authorized to work in the United States full-time.

Responsibilities

Position: Sr. Product Engineer (Kitchen Electrics)

Department: Engineering - OXO

Work Location: New York, NY

Hybrid Schedule: At Helen of Troy, we embrace a flexible hybrid work model designed to support collaboration and productivity. For roles eligible for hybrid work, our standard schedule includes in-office collaboration from Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. Any updates to this model will be communicated in advance. Please note that hybrid eligibility and schedules may vary based on business needs and manager expectations.

What you will be doing:
  • Critiques designs received from design firms, including reviews of designs provided as CAD files, and solicits feedback from factories.
  • Input changes, sends required changes to the design firm and discusses changes with the design firm.
  • Aids in the review process, as well as orders and produces design prototypes.
  • Review pre-production samples from the factory.
  • Submits samples of the product after the factory begins producing a design.
  • Review samples and provide input about required changes.
  • Approves the project for production when the samples have reached an acceptable level of quality.
  • Review designs with the factory, involving answering factory questions on the design and deciding whether the requested changes are reasonable.
  • Meets with the design firms to provide design input concerning design decisions related to cost and manufacturing.
  • Work with Internal or external teams to develop firmware and electronics, when applicable.
  • Builds proof-of-concept prototypes for products such as coffee makers, grinders, and various plug and battery powered products.
  • Prepares designs for quoting and reviews quotes, including producing parts lists (i.e., BOMs) for products, manufacturing documentation, any questions, or notes, and making decisions about material types and manufacturing methods.
  • Review quotes and compare quotes from different vendors.
  • Designs product testing procedures and conducts testing.
  • Ensure that a product meets standards of performance and quality.
  • Performs standard testing, i.e., drop testing and other testing specifically crafted around the task of a particular product.
  • Contemplates and develops new product concepts.
  • Builds a prototype of the product and has the design completed by a design firm or fully designs the product to be produced by a factory.
  • Troubleshooting mechanical issues and providing corrective action Basic troubleshooting of electrical system and working with internal/external teams for corrective action.
  • Works with the quality team to solve problems that arise with products that are already in production.
  • Works with electrical compliance team for product certification Identifies issues with products already in production and develops and implements fixes or improvements.
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly through sketches and e-mail (including to others where English is their 2nd language)
  • Able to manage more complex product development projects.
  • Ability to work well as part of a larger team.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electro-mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of prior experience relevant to this role.
  • Excellent working knowledge of plastic materials, injection molding, sheet metal, and die casting.
  • Proven SolidWorks or Creo skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical systems and ability to troubleshoot Basic understanding of electrical schematics
  • Ability to write basic code using Arduino, raspberry Pi, or other similar programs
  • General shop skills and equipment knowledge (drill presses, band saws, table saws, etc.)
  • Ability to travel domestically/internationally to Asia (up to 10%).
  • Ability to attend early morning/evening calls outside of regular business hours as needed.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with global teams and products manufactured in Asia.
  • Experience working on consumer electronics

In New York City, the standard base pay range for this role is $106,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually. This base pay range is specific to New York City and may not be applicable to other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
