Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Serve as the technical contact for processes including atomization, screening, blending, loading, and testing of powder.
- Create, maintain, and standardize operating instructions, mill instructions, quality system documents, and sample plans for powder alloys.
- Develop technical expertise in powder atomization and processing through experimentation, literature review, best practice sharing, and conference attendance.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain SPC limits for key products and processes.
- Apply team-based Continuous Improvement tools to enhance yield, quality, safety, equipment performance, and reduce costs.
- Support development, validation, and standardization of powder testing methods across facilities.
- Assist with certification of powder orders and shipments.
- Review customer specifications and support sales with quote approvals.
- Provide technical support during customer engagements, both on-site and off-site.
- Address product and process non-conformances, customer complaints, and analyze data.
- Communicate results promptly through reports and presentations.
- Willing to travel 2-4 times per year.
Qualifications
Education Required:
- B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with continuous improvement and lean methodologies is preferred.
- Experience with statistical software like JMP or Mini-Tab is preferred.
Experience Required:
- Recent graduates considered.
- At least 2 years of process or product engineering experience related to super alloys, titanium, steels, or refractory alloys is preferred.
- Knowledge of powder production and applications is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong technical background in metals powder processing and chemistry/property relationships.
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills.
- Good interpersonal communication skills.
- Desire to become a technical expert and main contact in the area.
- Comfort on the shop floor observing and guiding processes.
- Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
- Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams.
- Data-driven problem solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
