Job summary

Wieland North America, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer in Waterbury, CT to improve production processes and material quality for copper and stainless steel alloys.

The role is on-site with 15–25% travel and a base salary range of $100,000–$115,000 per year, plus potential bonus based on company performance. Responsibilities include developing processes, working with cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement while adhering to Wieland safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science – Material Science preferred.
  • 5–7 years’ experience in a metals processing engineering role or similar.
  • Advanced metallurgical understanding of metal properties is helpful.
  • Familiar with ISO standards (ISO 9001, TS 16949) and quality improvement tools.
  • Experience with SAP ERP is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve methods for complex manufacturing processes related to copper, steel, and product fabrication.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and shop floor teams to set standards and solve processing issues.
  • Evaluate new product requests and develop processes, routings, and shipping follow-through.
  • Create and adjust processing routes to match available resources.
  • Support root cause investigations and quality audits with data-driven analysis.

Wieland is hiring a Sr. Process Engineer. The Sr. Process Engineerwill be responsible for improving production processes and the quality of the material to manufacture copper and stainless steel-alloy strips cost effectively. This role is located in Waterbury,CT and will be fullyon-site. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (15-25% travel).

Base Salary Range: $100,000.00-$115,000.00 per year

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Sr. Process Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve methods for complex manufacturing processes related to part fabrication of copper, steel and products.
  • Actively work with engineering, quality, and shop floor personnel to develop standards and problem solve processing issues
  • Evaluate new product requests, develop process and routings, follow through to shipping
  • Develop new processes as well as change processing routers as needed to accommodate available resources.
  • Work collaboratively with quality in evaluation of customer return and creation of rework for non-conforming material.
  • Effectively plan and execute improvement projects that drive sustained results. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
  • Strong adherence to Wieland Safety Culture
  • Develop new and rework process routings for new and existing products.
  • Process Improvements: Evaluate processing issues, create rework steps, non-conformance, and new processing steps in the system.
  • Assistsin all quality audit functions from both customers and outside surveillance audits.
  • Work collaboratively with production and laboratory personnel to support root cause analysis investigations of quality, Safety and process problems including use and coaching of statistical analysis for data driven problem solving
  • Review mechanical properties of processed material to meet customer specifications and make processing changes as needed.
  • Support Sales and Technical Service needs as related to customer expectations, including dimensional layouts and capability studies, and root cause investigation.
  • Work collaboratively with quality in addressing customer complaintsand rejections.
  • Develop and assist with creation and auditing of standard processes
  • Assistmanufacturing with procedures,processing,and material issues.
  • Conduct experiments to develop processing parameters for new items or new alloys and also to evaluate the cause of non-conformance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Sr. Process Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science – Preferred – Material Science.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in a metals processing engineering role or similar work experience equivalent.
  • Preferred - Advanced metallurgical understanding of metal (mechanical properties, crystalline structure, etc.)
  • Familiar with ASTM standards for copper base and Stainless Steel and able to interpret standard.
  • Familiar with SAP ERP system (preferred)
  • Preferred - Experience in themetalsprocessing industry for copper-baseandstainless-steelalloys
  • Preferred - Understanding of metalsprocessing equipment such as rolling mills, annealing furnaces, leveling lines,slittingequipment andtheir capabilities.
  • Ability tounderstandmetallurgical properties within the various metal systems
  • Knowledgeable in ISO 9001, TS 16949 standards (internal auditor certification)
  • Effective Root Cause analysis skills
  • Familiarity with SPC, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Improvement Techniques.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to customers, theirneedsand their requirements
  • Certified SixSigma- Minimum– yellow belt– preferred
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Work Environment is a Manufacturing facility with a Laboratory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers and all levels of the organization while handling confidential information.
  • Basic Understanding of Electroplating of metal strip products – (preferred)
